Back In The Day

Sure there may be a million nostalgia posts out there and I’m not promising that mine will be different but frankly I don’t care. Most of them focus on kid stuff anyway. There’s nothing wrong with that but sometimes it’s not cool to be reminded that I’m getting old and that stuff for kids suck massively now. So while maybe telling my age I’ll talk about some of the things I remember.

Back in the day people didn’t take 3938421697 pictures of themselves every day. Kodak cameras could only hold 24 pictures and it cost money to get them developed so you only took pictures of important things.

Back in the day parents wouldn’t tell you a damn thing about the other people in your family being a hot ass mess unless they were obviously a crackhead.

Back in the day you could buy more than a week’s worth of food for $100 dollars (You barely can now even if you don’t have a big family).

Back in the day cable was not needed unless you has a desire to watch old movies that there was no way in hell you would bother buying or recording.

Back in the day broken cassette tapes on the street = toys (I was not the only one who liked to play with those and the cassette tape was better than the VCR tape).

Back in the day wearing cropped pants meant you were flooding (aka not a fashion style).

Back in the day schools closed after getting 8 inches of snow (These schools now try to stay open for everything all in the name of providing kids with 2 meals. I wish they would understand that nobody is walking through knee high snow to get a little ass bowl of Frosted Flakes and some processed meatloaf).

Back in the day it was easy to find regular people selling sno-cones (Now you might see a couple around).

Back in the day your ass knew how to play a variation of every made up sport even if you hated it.

Back in the day you were the weird one if you didn’t live with both parents even if they weren’t married (Now you get crazy looks for growing up with both parents).

Back in the day men bonded over a game of dominoes because everyone knew someone who had some (Cards too).

Back in the day if you had a fight the loser knew how to go sit down and drop whatever problem they had from then on

Back in the day it was boring as hell to go to the mall as a kid because your mom would never take you do all the fun stuff (like them little baby ass rides, the food court and the fountain where you could throw pennies in).

Back in the day there were so many indoor amusement parks and they were more than adequate (I was sad when they turned the one near the place I grew up into a Laundromat and it’s still there to this day).

Back in the day damn near everything you did or used was dangerous and you knew how not to get hurt from it (Metal slides on the playground, razors that weren’t disposable, certain kinds of clothes that just came out the dryer, pots with the steamer on the top….everything).
