No photo this week. It seems pointless when there are only 9 shows on the list this week.

VH1 Ratings: 2020

We've started a new year and a new decade. So let me run down a few stats from both since this post will be so short for at least the first month [Updated 8/4/20].

Very slow week where the only highlights are The Challenge reunion and the All Stars finale.

VH1 Ratings: 2019

A new year brings a brand new list. With so many shows starting from the outset, this list is going to fill up pretty fast. As usual, I will update this post on a weekly basis, all specials will be located on the bottom and I will continue to bump last year's post until the final show concludes its season [Update: 7/28/20].

I'm going to skip the photo today. They're getting a little hard to come by and the biggest news of the last week is about a show that isn't on the list this week.

There isn't a whole lot to talk about here. The only event of note is the Married to Medicine LA finale.

Ratings: June 30th-July 6th, 2020

The long holiday weekend was pretty brutal to most shows on the list. It was a tough gamble to make because it's summer and the actual holiday fell on a Saturday. Networks and viewers did what they wanted and it definitely shows.

Someone had to be first in trying to see how awards shows can operate in a pandemic. Can't say it was a success for BET, but someone has to try. For now, it appears MTV will try to hold the VMA's in person in August, and I'm not sure they can or should be confident about keeping their word on that.

Things are all quiet on the television front this week and I don't anticipate that changing for at least a few more weeks.

Ratings: June 9th-15th, 2020

There really isn't anything remarkable to say this week. It appears the networks are trying to resume some sort of filming schedule now that most of the lockdowns have been lifted, but it's still a very unpredictable situation and some networks are beginning to show how empty their original content benches are.

The big news over the last week are the announcements of people exiting shows (specifically Legends of Tomorrow and Vanderpump Rules). Cast changes are normal and happen for a variety of reasons, good and bad, but these days it gives people something to talk about because no one knows when these shows will actually return.

TV just doesn't seem important this week. I won't speak on events of the day here because my feelings are strong and I've struggled to put them into words. I want to, but I'm not sure I can and making a partial statement won't get that heavy feeling off my chest.

This weekend is supposed to be the unofficial start of summer and we would usually have an idea what the networks are planning for fall. As of this post, ABC and NBC still haven't announced any definitive plans. FOX and CBS plan to launch in the fall, but with a schedule heavy with returning shows. The CW says they will not launch their new season until January 2021 and they will fill the fall with reality shows, specials, the final handful of Supernatural episodes and international series.

The numbers and TV news was pretty boring last week, but networks are making the effort to do what they can to finish out the seasons of these shows.

Ratings: April 28th-May 4th, 2020

The next 10 days are going to be very bizarre in the TV world. Next week is normally the week of the Upfronts. Most networks have opted to either cancel their presentations, delay them, or stream them online. Understandably, there is no one appropriate way to figure out how to do a presentation. It is also very hard to commit to shows when production is shut down across the board. There are no guarantees that filming will resume in July or August. There are no guarantees that shows can premiere in September and October. No one knows anything. So there may be some news of networks deciding at least if they are sure they want to cancel shows or announce final seasons, but I don't think anyone can promise a flurry of broadcast TV news over the next week. It might happen, or not.

I can't think of another show that has had such a dramatic rise and fall as Empire had. The final season was marred with scandal and Coronavirus. I won't be surprised if there is some type of reunion or special sometime in the future. I don't know that FOX wants it, but they might take it if its a quick option for them.

Ratings: April 14th-20th, 2020

We're entering the phase where we are going to see a month-long phase of rolling finales while not particularly having an equal number of premieres to replace them. The reason is simple. There are several broadcast shows that were unable to film the final episodes of their seasons and are forced to end before their typical May finales. There are also quite a few cable networks making adjustments to how they are going to roll out their summer lineups because they too are in shutdown mode and unable to film new seasons.

Marriage Boot Camp saw a little bit of a finale bounce, but of all the shows I've been tracking, it is one of the few that hasn't experienced some kind of a Coronavirus bounce. It's a little strange and I have no explanation for that.

The list is short this week because The CW took the week off. The list will start getting shorter as some of these shows will be forced to end their seasons early.

Ratings: March 24th-30th, 2020

While the numbers in general are up from the last month, there was not a lot of change from last week. However, that isn't the biggest problem that many networks will face in the coming weeks. Their decisions will come from having to shorten the seasons of some shows and having to reformat others (particularly live shows like American Idol and The Voice). Also, they will have to decide whether some low-rated shows should be spared for now since they will have to make blind decisions on potential new shows. Anyway, all I'm saying is expect a lot of reruns, clip shows, shows without reunions and throwaway shows, specials and movies that were already filmed but initially passed on. Nobody knows when this thing will pass.

Looking at this week's numbers points towards something I commented on last week. There's probably one show that experienced a larger than normal drop, but in general, most shows did see a slight increase from last week. As the quarantines mount, there may be something to people at least tuning into their favorite shows live.

Generally speaking, the numbers do not look dramatically different from last week. Unlike most weeks, I don't know what to make of this kind of stability. I'll explain.

Not including a picture today. The post is already a little late because of delays and I'm already pressed for time. I purposely waited to see the Black Lightning finale numbers. You may already know that the show has been renewed for a fourth season. Going by the numbers this season, don't be surprised if there's an announcement sometime over the next several months that the next season will perhaps be the last. I also wouldn't be shocked if it doesn't make the fall schedule.

I'm back and I'll admit I've paid attention to no ratings in the time I was gone. I just hope I remembered everything and kept these shows in the best order that I could put them in.

The Super Bowl was up from last year, but still nowhere near its highs from several years ago. I'm not entirely sure it's a matchup issue. I think the NFL got the game they wanted, the halftime act wasn't the worst (but I have no suggestions there, I never watch halftime), and I'm not entirely sure that the TV environment allows for those record highs anymore. I can't say it will never happen again, but with ratings down everywhere, it's hard to see things setting records in the future.

On a personal note, I'm taking the rest of the month off from these posts. I'll update the VH1 numbers at some point, but some very important personal obligations are going to keep me away from here.

Ratings: January 21st-27th, 2020

There were no premieres, returns or finales for any of the shows on the list this week. That means it was an uncharacteristically quiet week during a time where absolutely nothing else in society followed that trend.

Wednesday, January 22, 2020

Ratings: January 14th-20th, 2020

This week's list features the return of The CW shows. In true CW fashion, these 2nd half numbers really mean nothing because all the CW shows on this list are either in their final season or they have already been renewed for next season.

Tuesday, January 14, 2020

Ratings: January 7th-13th, 2020

Shows are beginning to return for new seasons or from winter break. There are a handful of shows that look pretty steady (the NBC Chicago shoes, The Haves and the Have Nots and Vanderpump Rules fit that bill). There are also quite a few shows that are looking weaker than their more recent numbers (specifically the VH1 and MTV shows and Power).

I am aware that I used the same picture for 2 consecutive posts (I intend to change the one on the 2020 post whenever a better picture of any other show comes out) and I am also aware that the title only covers 6 days instead of 7 (No shows aired on New Years Eve and it looks cleaner to not have to type out 2 whole dates).
