Edit Post
Those of you coming from Bourgy know I post my ratings list every single week faithfully but you all are also aware that the list is long and usually I have to keep my opinions quiet in favor of just posting that long list.
Now that I’m here I can pick out some shows and give a few short thoughts on them, good or bad. I’ll only stick with 10 here (doing one on 30+ shows is way too much and some of the ratings don’t change all that much to warrant giving a thought). These shows will also be in no particular order although if I continue on with these they will probably be in order by day with Monday shows being last.
1. Glee (6.900 million; 2.7 demo)- Glee has already been renewed for next season but its ratings have dropped a lot this spring. It may not be a stretch to believe that next season could be its last.
2. America’s Next Top Model (1.150 million)- The CW was premature in renewing this show and no cast shakeup is going to improve its ratings so it will be sad to see this show limping towards its death.
3. The Vampire Diaries (2.220 million; 1.1 demo)- The CW has fallen far when this is their highest rated show and it’s on the low end of getting over 2 million viewers.
4. Once Upon a Time (9.200 million; 3.0 demo)- For the first time in 3 years ABC won’t have to give a rookie show a pity renewal because this, along with Revenge, are both looking very good to come back. Expect renewal announcements for both in about a week or 2.
5. The Pauly D Project (1.242 million; 0.7 demo)- This show is sinking lower and lower every week and it is beginning to get more and more difficult for MTV to justify giving this show another chance (Snooki and J-Woww’s show can’t get here fast enough for MTV)
6. The Game (2.111 million; 1.1 demo)- While it is BET’s highest rated show it is down big from last season. However it does have a 22 episode season 6 renewal and BET is also abandoning reality shows for more scripted shows so BET still owes this show a huge thank you for turning around their network.
7. Bad Girls Club: Las Vegas (2.076 million; 1.0 demo)- It took this show 3 seasons just to have 1 episode get back above the 2 million viewer mark. Still Oxygen doesn’t want to build their network around this show. It might actually be a smart idea not to put this show through spinoff overkill.
9. Tough Love: New Orleans (858,000; 0.4 demo)- 3 episodes in and the ratings are actually trending up. A couple more episodes of numbers like this and VH1 will be ordering a season 5 (Yes I still think it shouldn’t have been renewed for a season 4 but VH1 is incredibly desperate).
10. 16 & Pregnant (1.508 million; 0.8 demo)- This is really one of the few original shows that gets far lower ratings than its spinoff (Teen Mom) but it’s because of Teen Mom’s success that this show keeps going. For now the ratings are even with last season and they aren’t horrendous so MTV will keep it around.

VH1's ratings are up 33% year to year. You may not like their programming, but they're not desperate.
http://thefutoncritic.com/ratings/2012/05/01/vh1-primetime-ratings-spring-up-33-percent-among-adult-18-49-viewers-in-april-597300/20120501vh101/
Averaging 593,000 viewers and a 0.4 in the demo in primetime is desperation. It's a terrible number considering that shows like House of Consignment and Couples Therapy don't average those numbers. It's not a positive sign when VH1 programs so few original hours in primetime and they have shows that grossly under-perform that average because the average will already be weighted down by the massive number of repeats throughout the week.
Also consider that a 33% demo increase to 0.4 means the demo only increased by 0.1 in an entire year. VH1 is not a new network nor is it a small network and it's primetime demo over the last 6 months has just now put it back among the top 30 cable networks when 4 years ago it was a top 10 cable network. The percentage increase only seems large because the actual number is tiny.
