CBS 2012 Season in Review

Time for CBS. These next 4 posts really shouldn't be as long as the first one.

Undecided/Still airing: A Gifted Man, NYC 22, CSI: New York, CSI: Miami, Unforgettable, Rules of Engagement, Rob! and Two and a Half Men

Renewed: Survivor (2 cycles), The Amazing Race (1 cycle), Undercover Boss, 60 Minutes, 48 Hours Mystery, Blue Bloods, The Good Wife, The Mentalist, Hawaii 5-0, CSI, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person of Interest, Criminal Minds, Mike & Molly, NCIS, How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls and The Big Bang Theory

Canceled: How to Be a Gentleman (Begins summer burnoff later this month)

Thoughts: There really isn’t much for CBS to do here. They did the bulk of their work in March when they renewed most of their shows. The only reason why Two and a Half Men wasn’t renewed with the rest was because of contract negotiations but those are nearly settled so the show will return.

Rules of Engagement and Rob! have the distinction of being the 2 lowest rated comedies on CBS’s schedule even though their actual ratings are not really bad. The only way CBS keeps either show is if they want a show to have in case a new show flops (This has been Rules of Engagement’s role for a while) or if they make room to add more comedies on their schedule.

A Gifted Man is done for and NYC 22 is a dead show walking. Unforgettable is also not looking very good. That means the only 2 other shows truly left to make a decision on are the 2 CSI shows. When CBS renewed their other shows both CSI: New York and CSI: Miami looked equally in danger not to return and with the renewal of The Good Wife it was confirmed that at least one of those shows would be canceled. Since then CSI: New York’s ratings have fallen faster than CSI: Miami so if one is canceled it will probably be CSI: New York though if that is canceled there is no guarantee that CSI: Miami will be spared (CSI: Miami does have a new syndication deal that helps its chances a little)
