10 Ratings Blurbs 10/23/12 Edition

I know I haven't posted much lately but I've been working on something very important to me personally and I really need to take that time to finally get it completed. I will try to tear myself away from that over the weekend and early next week to get some fresh posts up around here.

[Full List Here]

1. Nashville (6.74 million 2.0)- This is not a very good outing for episode 2. ABC pinned a lot of hopes and took a lot of flack for moving Revenge in favor of this show and a number like this makes it look like a bust. Because of the huge messes for every other 10pm show (sans Castle) and Last Resort, something may have to get a few extra episodes but if Nashville keeps dropping then this won’t be the show that gets spared before December.

2. Emily Owens M.D. (1.67 million 0.5)- Last season The CW premiered 3 fall dramas (Ringer, The Secret Circle and Hart of Dixie). Of those 3 Hart of Dixie had the lowest premiere ratings but still ended up with the renewal. Of the 3 dramas this season this is the Hart of Dixie of the crop which would be ok except that Hart of Dixie had slightly better ratings. This show can’t afford to lose any viewers at all because The CW does have 2 scripted replacements in the wings and one of those doesn’t have a predetermined spot on the schedule. Stability and/or improvement is a must or else it could be a 13-and-done show.

3. Switched at Birth (1.783 million 0.8)- In what seems like the longest 1st season ever, this show is a decent end to ABC Family’s official scripted 2012 season (I say official because this is the last non-holiday special episode for all of their scripted shows that will air this year). While they spend the next 2+ months regrouping ABC Family can only hope that 2013 is more kind to them.

4. Alphas (1.172 million 0.5)- For a show that has its fate up in the air this is absolutely not a good finish. Syfy is known to take a month or so to make a decision but a decision will be made most likely before the holiday lull begins and when it is made (good or bad because they are good on making their decisions public) people will know.

5. America’s Next Top Model (1.45 million 0.6)- So The CW renewed this show for a 20th cycle which would be a good thing except that they have banished it to the summer. Admittedly The CW’s summer ratings were downright awful and they have been somewhat committed to keeping some eyeballs on the network so perhaps this will help but The CW really has to acknowledge that this show is on its last legs and can’t go on too much longer.

6. Elementary (10.91 million 2.3)- This is not exactly the hit show CBS was hoping for but I’m also not very surprised that this got a full season order either. CBS only has one other drama in their midseason reserves and since they have already canceled on drama (Made In Jersey) something has to stay and just be dealt with (good or bad) the closer it gets to May.

7. Project Runway (2.404 million 0.8)- This looks like a fairly weak finale for Project Runway. Since the show is over there’s not much Lifetime can do except hope that next season delivers some slightly better numbers.

8. American Horror Story: Asylum (3.848 million 2.2)- To tie Sons of Anarchy in the demo last week is an impressive feat. However if I remember correctly, last season also had a very strong start before dipping back to be FX’s #2 show. Perhaps the same will happen again this season but that remains to be seen.

9. Tamar & Vince (667,000 0.4)- A lot of people would call this a flop and if it was on another network it might be. This seems to be right on par with the first season of Braxton Family Values and with the scarce ratings of WE’s other shows that I have seen in recent months this is still doing better than those shows. I don’t know if WE will go for another season having seen such little info but what I have seen doesn’t scream that it is definitely going to get canceled either.

10. The X Factor (6.34 million 2.3)- The scheduling for this show is going to continue to be messed up for at least 2 more weeks. That’s probably why FOX went ahead and renewed this show for season 3 now. It doesn’t come close to living up to expectations but FOX is in a bad hole that they are going to have a lot of trouble fixing for quite some time (I’m talking at least 2-3 years at minimum. This season they are going to have to suffer).
