10 Ratings Blurbs 8/14/12 Edition

There were a lot of premieres and finales this week so that certainly helped with picking out shows and that should keep things busy for the next 2 months now [Full list here].

1. Grimm (5.64 million 2.0)- Coming off of a strong 2 weeks with the Olympics it is easy to see why some would think this is a disappointing premiere. However this is the 2nd highest rated episode of this show to date so I think these numbers are pretty good.

2. Hard Knocks (737,000 0.5)- I think this is ok for this show though I haven’t seriously paid attention to the ratings for previous seasons. Perhaps HBO is expecting a boost tonight given the events from these past few days but the show is about the team so any increase shouldn’t be permanent.

3. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo (Premiere: 2.253 million 0.8; Episode 2: 2.140 million 0.8)- This actually did better than Toddlers & Tiaras on Wednesday (1.554 million 0.6). I know the TLC execs were grinning Thursday afternoon but something doesn’t sit right with me with this show. They will take these numbers. It has some ways to fall before its in danger.

4. Dallas (4.287 million 1.3)- I know TNT is breathing a big sigh of relief that this show ended on somewhat of a high note. It’s one thing when people think a show is performing below expectations but it’s another thing when the show actually doesn’t live up to expectations. Only the former is true in this case.

5. Teen Wolf (1.709 million 0.8)- The only thing that can be said about this show is that the audience is extremely loyal. It’s held pretty much the same amount of viewers every week (minus the one week with the DirecTV blackout). MTV can hope the same holds true for season 3 because they are going to need it.

6. Common Law (2.035 million 0.6)- Something in me still says this might get another season. It’s had a rough go of things recently but since USA knows what a real flop looks like (Political Animals) maybe they will think this deserves at least one more chance (because why the hell not? 2012 is the year of rewarding failure and mediocrity anyway and these ratings are mediocre).

7. Longmire (4.336 million 0.8)- This is the beauty of cable. Here a show can have a low demo and still be a hit because a truckload of people watch it. Not a bad sendoff here for season 1 but I know A&E will probably be gunning for a season 2 premiere with a 1.0 in the demo.

8. Alphas (988,000 0.4)- Ok these numbers are not really all that good. Yes it’s on a Monday and it’s not like Syfy has overtly impressive ratings for anything not named WWE Smackdown but still this is troubling. They have shown to be less kind to shows with slightly better numbers.

9. Bunheads (1.131 million 0.5)- ABC Family has some decisions to make because right now nothing other than Pretty Little Liars is safe. I wonder if they will wait to see Switched at Birth numbers to make a decision but a 4th show has to be ready to go in January and they haven’t made any moves towards picking up any new shows.

10. Big Brother (Wednesday: 5.39 million 1.9; Thursday: 5.03 million 1.8; Sunday: 5.36 million 2.0)- I don’t doubt that the Olympics had a part in depressing the ratings for this show but I’m also hearing that this is also a terrible season so it might be a stretch to think that this show can bounce 0.5-0.9 demo points to get back where last season was.

I just heard from a friend that in San Francisco a couple of Gay bars show Toddlers and Tiaras on the large screen TV's. I wouldn't doubt they do the same to Honey Boo Boo because yeah I can see Gay guys thinking these stuff was too funny! So I hope the fan base is full of people who want to laugh instead of folks who actually think this is what they want their child to be. After viewing a few minutes of last night's HCHBB, I can honestly say these folks need much prayer and to just completely go away!
