10 Ratings Blurbs 11/6/12 Edition

Yes I'm kinda switching back and forth between election results and the Bulls game but that's not the reason why this post is late (I blame Oxygen...more on that later).

[Full List Here]
1. Total Blackout (1.427 million 0.7)- This is a pretty decent season 2 premiere for the show. Syfy seems to have had slightly better success of late with their reality shows than they have had with their scripted shows but in the grand scheme of things they seem to be currently lacking a true hit show.

2. The Mindy Project (3.12 million 1.5)- FOX was way too premature in ordering a full season for this show but they also didn’t have much of a choice either. However, they didn’t have to order 2 extra episodes on top of the 9 previously ordered either. It’s going to be a long way to May and with the holiday break on the horizon things are not looking good for this show (not that they are good now).

3. Love Games (1.194 million)- To be honest I am not sure what Oxygen sees in this show or why they keep it around other than to keep a few of those BGC girls employed. This show is strange in that every time Oxygen puts this behind BGC it does better than every other show that gets placed there. The problem is Oxygen only does this for 1-3 episodes and then when BGC is over it falls off and can’t stand on its own. I see this same scenario playing out for the rest of season 4 (and yet they are already casting for season 5. SMH).

4. Real Housewives of Atlanta (3.228 million 1.6)- This is a very good start for this show. Bravo claims this is the highest rated premiere ever for any Real Housewives show. I’m well aware that Real Housewives shows tend to start low and start getting higher towards the end but last season had a fairly strong premiere too and the ratings dipped and stalled before coming up a little towards the end. I’m wondering if this season will model that pattern rather than the typical one.

5. Bad Girls Club: Mexico (1.904 million 0.9)- After an immensely weak start this season, this show climbed right back to deliver that 1.5 million viewer average that Oxygen has come to expect from this show. I do think season 4 was the peak of this show but it has to be quite encouraging for Oxygen still that they can air 2 seasons per year and they generally deliver the same numbers (especially when nothing else works for them).

6. Inbetweeners (655,000 0.3)- This show started out weakly and exited at just about the same place. If this was a reality show MTV would merely be leaning towards not bringing this back. Since this is a scripted show it is not coming back. MTV has plenty of other better performing scripted shows (Hint: Underemployed is not one of them. That show is not long for this world either).

7. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (1.809 million 0.9)- I’m not very surprised at these numbers. Some will say this is a weak start given the promotion but you also have to remember that season 2 had slightly weaker numbers with even more promotion and attention. Bravo isn’t worried about this at all. Their focus still seems to be trying desperately to save Real Housewives of Miami.

8. Once Upon a Time (10.15 million 3.5)- A lot of networks have been an absolute mess this season and the winter will not be any more kind to them. Fortunately for ABC they have something to smile at when they see these numbers.

9. 666 Park Avenue (3.99 million 1.3)- This show is done for. ABC is not going to renew this show and these numbers are so low that it’s going to be pretty hard for them to justify ordering extra episodes for it too.

10. Emily Owens M.D. (1.03 million 0.3)- This show is going to be canceled. The ratings are too low at this point to save it. The only question is when. With one midseason timeslot already open (8pm Fridays since ANTM won’t have a spring cycle) and only one show without a timeslot (Cult), The CW may have to order extra episodes of this show to cut down on reruns from other shows. There will also be the question of where Cult goes and since networks don’t really like playing in-season musical chairs with shows this could end up sticking around a little longer than it actually needs to.
