10 Ratings Blurbs 4/30/13 Edition

I feel like I've been neglecting the broadcast shows over the last few weeks. Too bad I don't have to worry about that because the next few weeks are going to be all about them as they all begin to wrap their seasons and await their fates for next season (either making it to next season or waiting for where they are going to go on the schedule) [Full List Here].

1. Teen Mom 2 (Finale: 2.679 million 1.7; Clip Show 1.970 million 1.2)- Pretty good for the finale for this. Not where it was 2 seasons ago but pretty good. Maybe even too good because the numbers say MTV would be foolish not to renew the show and yet the off show drama only begs for the show to be canceled. We will see if MTV decides if they have a conscience or if money matters more.

2. Project Runway (2.283 million 0.7)- This has to be one of the oldest skewing reality shows on TV (next to Dancing With the Stars). It’s almost ridiculous how low the demo on this show is compared to the total viewers. Still that’s not the point. This was a fairly weak season for the franchise and I don’t know what Lifetime has planned for next season but hopefully it isn’t a stale gimmick.

3. Beauty and the Beast (1.24 million 0.5)- Now that we know for certain that this is coming back fans of this show need to accept that it is not going to stay behind The Vampire Diaries (It’s a 99.9999% given that the spot will go to The Originals). Luckily, The CW does have a few options with this show as it appears to be compatible with a good number of their new pilots. I would be surprised if it is an 8pm show anywhere but the three nights I can see it moving to would be Monday, Tuesday or Friday (yes Friday is an option too. Not a good one but an option).

4. The Vampire Diaries [The Originals Pilot] (2.24 million 1.0)- This doesn’t get very much attention anymore because this show is still doing well for The CW. This show has 2 issues. The first issue is that the show is now on the same level as Arrow and Supernatural (though it will finish the season with a higher season average than both of those shows). The second issue is that this is now the 4th straight year where The CW failed to launch a hit show from The Vampire Diaries (although some exception must be given to Supernatural since it was the only show that wasn’t new when it was paired with The Vampire Diaries 4 years ago and while it was an ok performer then, it is a hit now) The CW is going to try yet again to launch a rookie show from this and this time they are hoping that perhaps a spinoff is what they needed all along but with numbers like these they better not hang their hats on the show being the savior of the network.

5. The Gossip Game (1.049 million 0.6)- I honestly don’t want to wait 2 more weeks to waste a spot on the predictions post so I will say this now. This show got moved twice in 2 weeks after having the best timeslot on VH1’s schedule. This show is already dead to VH1 and it is not going to get renewed. They are just giving people the luxury of seeing the rest of the episodes on TV (And now this means 3 of the 7 currently airing VH1 shows are airing at or after 11pm and one more desperately needs to move out of primetime as well).

6. Two and a Half Men (11.32 million 2.8)- CBS’s comedies are a ridiculous mess waiting to happen. This time last year a number like this would spell certain doom for any CBS comedy, especially a comedy airing behind The Big Bang Theory. Times have changed because this will be back next year. Where it will go is something that CBS has to think about. It’s too old and weak to anchor Mondays (although numbers like these would make it one of the higher rated Monday comedies) but it’s also wasting a perfectly good comedy slot behind The Big Bang Theory as well.

7. Duck Dynasty (9.632 million 4.3)- I’ve decided to stop being surprised by the ratings for this show so that’s my attitude about it. I’m just waiting for when the show finally hits the ceiling just to see how high it can go.

8. The Following (7.82 million 2.7)- Actually pretty good numbers for the finale of this show. Not a 3.0 but for a scripted show this time of the year this is about as good as things are going to get for FOX.

9. Grimm (4.85 million 1.3)- Hopefully the new episode tonight will manage to do something for this show. NBC has always teased giving this show a chance behind The Voice and now it’s finally going to get that shot. Nobody is expecting much because it’s probably going back to Fridays next season anyway but perhaps it can salvage its season average and give NBC something to sell to their advertisers in a few weeks.

10. The Kandi Factory (Tuesday: 460,000 0.2; Sunday: 1.189 million 0.6)- This here is an example of Bravo trying to save a show. Those Tuesday numbers are certain cancellation numbers. Those Sunday numbers are not exceptional but they are acceptable. Those Sunday numbers are also the reason why Bravo is permanently moving the show to Sundays beginning next week (a new episode will still air tonight so expect trash ratings for that). Bravo shouldn’t be fooled by these Sunday numbers. The show really doesn’t have a faithful audience so I hope they aren’t once again lulled by the glow of Sundays to convince them to give yet another undeserving show another season.
