10 Ratings Blurbs 4/16/13 Edition

It feels good to be right. I called it last week when I said that VH1 was probably going to switch Family Hustle and The Gossip Game. Looks like they didn't want to wait one more week to take that opportunity [Full List Here].

1. The Kandi Factory (671,000 0.3)- This is bad and no doubt Bravo is worried and yet I don’t think this is surprising. While the ratings for the pilot were much better than this I didn’t get the impression that it was good enough for a full series. However Bravo thought so but that still doesn’t explain the tremendous gap between the airing of the pilot and now (almost a year if I recall correctly).

2. Fashion Star (2.95 million 0.8)- I can wonder all day why NBC brought this back and still wouldn’t be able to come up with a suitable answer. I don’t think NBC can come up with a good answer either and with so many other shows potentially heading out of the door this season they won’t need to dance around the reason why they are going to cancel this show next month

3. Dallas (9:00: 2.822 million 0.8; 10:00: 2.992 million 0.9)- This winter has been brutal for TNT and with 2 shows as a lock for cancellation (Boston's Finest and Monday Mornings) and one more struggling to get just one more season (Southland) they at least have this show to hang their hats on and say they did the best they could with what they had and they will reward this show with a third season.

4. Nashville (5.96 million 1.8)- This show is trying very hard just to hang in there. ABC (as always) has some very serious problems on the horizon with their dramas (their only dramas pulling over a 2.5 demo in the last couple of months is Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal and the former is in season 9. Take that as you will). They can’t seem to find any new hit dramas and while they got lucky with Scandal, Nashville had much higher expectations. So now while season 2 is probably going to happen, ABC needs to find some more magic because their blunder with Revenge, stubbornness with Castle and Body of Proof and getting blindsided by the huge drop of Once Upon a Time is not doing them any favors at all.

5. Spartacus: War of the Damned (1.425 million 0.6)- I suppose this did as well as could be expected for a series finale. Now Starz has the daunting task of trying to find a replacement that can generate some critical acclaim and acceptable ratings for them. Unfortunately it seems like the critical acclaim is much easier for them to come by than the ratings.

6. Hell’s Kitchen (4.53 million 1.9)- After seeing these numbers for a few weeks they have appeared to be mostly steady so it’s a good thing that FOX has a late-season critical player for them because they needed it. I’d imagine the show is probably still best utilized as a summer show but all things considering, this is not that bad for a Tuesday night on FOX.

7. Veep (1.188 million 0.6)- Comedies don’t really seem to do all that well behind HBO’s mega scripted shows. This is a fact. What is also fact is that the comedies do worse than this when there’s no scripted show to prop them up. So for now this is ok but it’s only the premiere so it’s likely going down from here but this is HBO and they basically operate the way they want to operate and nobody questions the decisions they make....ever (and I’m not going to start).

8. Love & Hip Hop 3 (2.358 million 1.4)- Not a season high but after this weak season it's not a bad way to go out. It must be said that people are forgetting how bad the ratings were from season 1. I still stand by my belief that the last 3 episodes saved the season and the entire franchise.

9. Real World: Portland (994,000 0.6)- After a disastrous start the numbers are starting to perk up. I keep hearing that there is supposed to be some epic new replacement coming along to spice up the show so I guess if that is so then the numbers will keep going up and we all know what will happen next.

10. The Show with Vinny [Preview] (1.855 million 1.0)- For a preview this is ok but it must have slipped my mind because I forgot when the show is actually premiering and that can’t be a good thing. MTV better step up their promotion because if this was the best that this show could do with help then they might be in some trouble when it actually gets here.
