10 Ratings Blurbs: 8/30/16 Edition

Doesn't feel like we're approaching the end of summer. I'm about ready for it to be over.

1. America’s Got Talent (Tuesday: 11.259 million 2.4; Wednesday: 10.671 million 2.1)- These are good numbers for a return after the Olympic break. I know the season will be shorter because of the break, but I expect a strong finish.

2. 2016 Video Music Awards (3.273 million 1.8)- MTV can’t be surprised with how disappointing these numbers are. I think they are just touting their streaming numbers because they didn’t bother to promote this as a major television event as they have done in the past.

3. Real Housewives of NYC (1.962 million 0.7)- This is going to be the first time in at least 3 seasons where Bravo won’t have to force themselves into believing the show deserves another season. This obviously deserves a ninth season.

4. The Strain (1.353 million 0.6)- When you consider that the show will never be in the same ratings class as American Horror Story and it has to compete on the death night that is Sunday nights, you feel that anything over a 0.4 demo for this show is a success.

5. Braxton Family Values (685,000 0.3)- I mentioned a few weeks ago that this show hasn’t been immune to the overall ratings slump affecting the entire WE network. I expect the show to return only because these are practically season 1 levels and nothing else seems to be doing better.

6. Duck Dynasty (1.241 million 0.4)- I still have to believe the show will return for the simple fact that I think this is one of those shows that has earned the right to get an official final season.

7. Return to Amish (1.338 million 0.4)- I don’t have much to say about this show. It looks like it is ending the season just as quietly as it came in.

8. Hollywood Divas (281,000 0.1)- The entire Divas franchise seems to be in jeopardy over at TV One. I’m not sure what the issue is, but the network doesn’t appear to be all in on the franchise anymore. I’m not going to declare this show dead, but its fate is definitely uncertain and I wouldn’t be surprised at whatever outcome occurs.

9. Ru Paul’s All Stars Drag Race (Logo Premiere: 283,000 0.1; VH1 Premiere 301,000 0.1)- Normally, I’m not a fan of splitting telecasts, but this show is unique in that Logo and VH1 did this partnership years ago in the early seasons of Ru Paul’s Drag Race (Not season 1 but perhaps seasons 2 and 3). I thought that brief experiment was a big factor in the show becoming so popular. I expect the VH1 airings to do slightly better because of the larger reach, but my guess is that only the Logo numbers will determine the future of the show.

10. VH1 Live (600,000 0.3)- So VH1 is just going to stop airing the show twice a week and just give it a permanent home at 11pm Mondays. I guess they feel the Sunday numbers are too awful to bear, but a 9pm Monday timeslot would only produce good, but fraudulent numbers and the post Love & Hip Hop slot is better utilized on another show (which these days is either Black Ink Crew, Family Hustle or a scripted show).
