10 Ratings Blurbs: 8/2/16 Edition

I'm back and my vacation and ready to get back into routine. I'm a little rusty because there are a ton of low rated shows on this list.

1. Shaunie’s Home Court (1.376 million 0.7)- It would not be unfair to say this show had a dismal start (The first 2 episodes came in with 665k and 581k viewers). VH1 agreed and thought the show would fare better on Mondays. All this show had to do was double the Sunday numbers and the move would be justified. Well, so far, so good because this is a major improvement.

2. Real Housewives of New Jersey (1.538 million 0.6)- This obviously isn’t as strong as season 6 so far, but it’s not terrible for a Real Housewives show. Maybe the show will hit its stride as the season rolls on.

3. Big Brother (Wednesday: 5.562 million 1.7; Thursday: 5.792 million 1.8; Sunday 5.874 million 1.7)- No complaints here. These are highly impressive late July numbers for CBS.

4. Duck Dynasty (1.312 million 0.4)- I don’t think A&E would feel disappointed with these numbers. I’ve long said the glory days are behind this show. Anything extra is nothing short of miraculous given the current PC climate where revealing political and religious beliefs and preferences are frowned upon.

5. Return to Amish (1.112 million 0.3)- I know it has been at least a year since the last season aired and that’s why the ratings for this season haven’t surprised me. Reality shows have to be popular to justify long hiatuses and in most cases, the long hiatuses are usually filled by other shows from the same franchise. This franchise petered out because people were only interested in the original cast members. The viewers seem to have moved on, but the numbers don’t warrant cancellation just yet.

6. Cutting It: In the ATL (454,000 0.2)- This is down pretty big from last season. All returning WE shows have seen ratings declines this year, so I’m not entirely sure what that means for the fate of this show. I think I would feel a little more comfortable about its chances if it can improve its average to get closer to that 600k mark.

7. VH1 Live! (410,000 0.2)- I didn’t get the point of having two talk shows airing at the same time on a network that has only relegated talk shows to daytime in the past. VH1 has already acknowledged that they botched their Sunday lineup and while these numbers have been better than that of The Amber Rose Show (see #9), I can’t help but think that this show will become a casualty from that mistake.

8. Hollywood Divas (248,000 0.1)- These numbers seem a little low, but they aren’t so low that I show a great deal of concern. TVOne had a stretch of time where it looked like the network was growing. Now that growth has stalled and it’s becoming obvious that while a show like this can stay afloat as long as the network pleases, this franchise won’t produce the breakout hit the network wants to find.

9. The Amber Rose Show (229,000 0.1)- Before this week’s numbers, I was in the camp of believing the show wasn’t performing horribly (the first 3 episodes have averaged 325,000 viewers). I don’t know what the expectations are for this show. 11pm Fridays is about the worst timeslot a show can have. This is one of those situations where more ratings won’t help make things clearer.

10. Real Housewives of Melbourne (249,000 0.1)- Bravo doesn’t produce this show, they just pay for the rights to air it. That’s why they can stick it on Friday nights and not worry about how it performs. They probably don’t see better numbers from reruns.
