10 Ratings Blurbs: 8/23/16 Edition

Now that the Olympics are over, some shows should begin to return to normal ratings levels.

1. The Voice (10.340 million 2.7)- Some people will think that these numbers are terrible given the lead-in. I think these numbers are just fine. It is a 30 minute preview of a show that is still a month away from premiering. These are the numbers I expect the show to get anyway.

2. Fear the Walking Dead (3.864 million 1.6)- It’s pointless to put AMC shows on some kind of grand pedestal because none of those shows (in terms of ratings) can be compared to The Walking Dead. That being said, this is a decent premiere. It could have been a little stronger, but nothing that anybody should feel disappointed about.

3. Keeping Up with the Kardashians (1.433 million 0.7)- This is only on the list because the news of the cancellation of I Am Cait basically establishes the danger zone for shows in the Kardashian franchise. E! has renewed shows recently with numbers lower than I Am Cait (550-775k range). My guess is the show was probably more expensive to produce and the cost didn’t justify the ratings. Obviously, this show would still need to lose about half of the viewers it has now to be in any serious danger. I don’t see that happening in the near future.

4. Teen Mom OG (Premiere: 1.158 million 0.6; Episode 2: 1.192 million 0.7)- I’m not enthused about these numbers. They aren't terrible, but I know the show can do a little better.

5. Real Housewives of New Jersey (1.381 million 0.6)- I knew this would rebound from last week. Outside of Labor Day weekend and whenever the Emmy’s air next month, it should have a good stretch of Sundays to try to build some momentum towards a solid late-season run.

6. Little Women: LA (1.382 million 0.6)- The numbers alone are not really notable. These are normal numbers for the show. I will say that I’m a little surprised that this show has overtaken the Atlanta version this cycle. My guess is that the newness of Atlanta has worn off and since this show is older, it has a few more dedicated fans.

7. So You Think You Can Dance (2.621 million 0.7)- This didn’t see much of a rebound after getting hammered by the Olympics. FOX may have to chalk this up to being a lost season, which should be a little worrisome because they desperately need a strong promotional push for their new fall shows.

8. Scream: The TV Series (Finale: 341,000 0.2; Aftershow: 145,000 0.1)- Ratings say this show should be canceled. MTV botched the opening by having on Mondays at 11pm before moving it to 10pm Tuesdays a few weeks later. The ratings never went anywhere and it was already a show on thin ice. If the show manages to earn a third season, it will be because MTV’s scripted bench is bare and this would be the most tenured scripted show next year.

9. Real Housewives of Melbourne (477,000 0.2)- I don’t know what made Bravo put a special episode on Wednesday. I don’t think it passed the test. It should definitely stay on Fridays.

10. Jim & Chrissy: Vow or Never (464,000 0.2)- Previews aren’t really good indicators of how a show will preform . There are always a lot of factors that can go into why a show will or won’t do well. I’m not going to attempt to guess how the show will do, but I believe it won’t have the same audience as it did when these two had their VH1 show.
