10 Ratings Blurbs: 8/16/16 Edition

Not much to say about the shows on the list this week.

1. Big Brother (Wednesday: 5.913 million 1.8; Thursday: 5.175 million 1.7; Sunday: 5.599 million 1.8)- CBS went ahead and renewed the show for 2 more seasons. This show fills up 3 nights in the summer. CBS needs it. They haven’t seen a ton of success with their scripted summer shows.

2. The Haves and the Have Nots (2.885 million 0.9)- The numbers have dipped a little from last week, but the show overall is putting together another strong half season run and it has maintained its distance ahead of the new #2 show Greenleaf.

3. Love & Hip Hop Hollywood (2.453 million 1.3)- This is a little bit higher than last season’s premiere. The difference is less than 65k viewers. Time will tell to see if this show has what it takes to surpass a vulnerable Atlanta show to become king of the franchise.

4. Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars (678,000 0.3)- WE will try its hand at another gimmick season of this show in a couple of months. I don’t know if it will work, but they need something to get people interested in their shows again. All the momentum they built last year is gone.

5. The Walking Dead (1.603 million 0.6)- These are decent numbers for an hour-long preview special for a show that is still at least 2 months away (Fear the Walking Dead returns next week).

6. Catfish: The TV Show (Premiere: 907,000 0.5: Episode 2: 811,000 0.4)- I can’t knock these numbers. It probably could have done a little better, but they definitely aren’t out of the realm of current expectations.

7. Real Housewives of New Jersey (860,000 0.3)- This probably took a massive hit because the start was delayed 30 minutes for Olympic tennis. That is all over with and I expect the numbers to recover next week.

8. VH1 Live! (Sunday: 361,000 0.2; Monday 1.928 million 1.0)- I have never seen an instance where a show that aired episodes on 2 consecutive days posts a series low and a series high in ratings in those 2 days.

9. Dating Naked (507,000 0.2)- The ratings have slid a little since the start of the Olympics. The numbers are trending lower than last season, but I don’t think they are so low that the show doesn’t have any shot at a fourth season.

10. Beauty and the Beast (605,000 0.2)- This is just limping along to the series finale. This is the worst time of year for a show to air on Thursdays. Football, football preemptions and the Olympics are certainly depressing the numbers even further.
