The holiday delayed nothing except for the fact that a lot of these networks gambled and lost on Monday night.
1. The Voice (10.594 million 2.2)- NBC will put on a brave face and act like they still have a strong show, but they need to be concerned. A 2.2 demo can turn into a 1.5-1.6 demo by this time next year. It will still be good enough to get renewed, but it may not be good enough to commit 2 nights per season to.
2. Dancing with the Stars (10.492 million 1.6)- This show will finally be put through the test that many people have waited for years to see. It will be tasked to try to launch a new show. Personally, I think their attempts will fail. I just can’t see a new show doing better than a 1.3 demo at 10pm.
3. The Flash (3.350 million 1.3)- This is a little low for a finale, but I don’t see anything here that will make alarm bells go off. I do worry that CW shows will lose a few viewers next season (WGN/Tribune in Chicago dropped The CW and will send the network to a smaller FOX affiliate in September. I don’t foresee massive viewer loss, but larger early season-to-season declines than normal may be a possibility).
4. The Americans (805,000 0.2)- There were legitimate fears that this show could have been cancelled this season. FX put a stop to those fears by announcing a 2 season renewal with season 6 being the final season. Everyone wins here.
5. Chicago PD (6.876 million 1.4)- This show continues to win the prize of being forced to stay afloat on Wednesday nights. Though the numbers are lower than Fire and Med, I’m confident the show will manage to survive.
6. Supernatural (1.836 million 0.7)- The show is on the move again. I think the move to Thursdays is a smart one because I don’t believe Legends of Tomorrow is strong enough to launch a new show. This show is a proven entity and the viewers will follow it.
7. Arrow (2.193 million 0.8)- Status quo finale numbers for a status quo show. I’m not expecting any kind of radical ratings shift next season.
8. Scream: The TV Series (402,000 0.2)- I don’t know if MTV expected better. This premiered on Memorial Day at 11pm directly against a competitive and highly rated game 7 of the NBA Western Conference Finals. I know they were hoping Teen Mom could offer some help, but it didn’t work. Now they need to hope these numbers improve a little next week.
9. Nashville (4.192 million 0.9)- ABC suffered through bad ratings and rocky times for four years with this show. The luck ran out here. I can’t say ABC will be better off without the show, but I’m sure they will have very high hopes for the replacement (I can’t remember the name of the show, but it has a high profile actor attached to it).
10. Awkward (10:00- 469,000 0.3; Series Finale: 382,000 0.2)- Not a great way to end a series in terms of ratings. This show may be remembered as a show that helped MTV view scripted shows as a viable option for them.
