10 Ratings Blurbs: 6/28/16 Edition

This was an active week with several premieres to inject some life into this post.

1. Game of Thrones (8.889 million 4.4)- I was absolutely not expecting this to hit a series high. It will be such a shame that outside of a couple of sports events, there may not be anything that hits over 3 million viewers on cable for the rest of the summer.

2. BET Awards 2016 (4.502 million 2.0)- These aren’t great numbers even if you just compare them to recent years. I don’t believe the telecasts across all the Viacom networks depressed the numbers (because all of those numbers seem to be in line with normal Sunday ratings for all of those networks). It is possible that Game of Thrones hurt this a bit, but there isn’t that much viewer crossover. Something must have really turned viewers off from this year’s program.

3. Big Brother (Wednesday: 6.190 million 1.9; Thursday: 5.667 million 1.7; Sunday: 5.451 million 1.6)- Those Wednesday numbers were decent, but the Thursday and Sunday numbers are meh. Outside of America’s Got Talent, The Bachelorette and American Ninja Warrior, you don’t see summer broadcast shows regularly hit above a 1.5 demo over several years. This show still has a well-deserved place at the table.

4. The Haves and the Have Nots (2.852 million 0.8)- This got overshadowed by the premiere of Greenleaf. That show was helped tremendously by this lead-in, and the numbers slipped on Wednesday without the help. I don’t write about the quality of shows. That would require me to watch them. So far, I see no reason to believe that this show will lose the title as the top rated OWN series.

5. Black Ink Crew (2.182 million 1.2)- This got back up to normal ratings for the finale. Barring extreme circumstances, I don’t see a scenario where this doesn’t come back. VH1 seems to be all in on the show and it is the only show they have on the network not affiliated with the Love & Hip Hop franchise that can consistently draw 2 million viewers.

6. Pretty Little Liars (1.429 million 0.7)- Freeform has had such a miserable time with their shows this year that numbers like these are a relief. I know these numbers are nowhere near where we expect them to be and they are worrying because these are premiere numbers, but I want to see where the show levels off first.

7. Veep (1.146 million 0.5)- I did not realize the finale was on Sunday when I put this in the post last week. The ratings are up from last week. They are nothing spectacular, but HBO will take them if these numbers are the same for next season’s premiere.

8. Teen Mom 2 (867,000 0.5)- I just threw this in because I realized I was one show short. These are actually pretty good numbers for a clip show on MTV.

9. Keeping Up with the Kardashians (1.228 million 0.5)- Last week’s episode took a sharp drop and these numbers are about even with last week. Next weekend is a holiday weekend so I’m pretty sure a break is in order, but it’s going to be interesting to see if these numbers are the start of a new trend for the show.

10. Livin’ Lozada (362,000 0.1)- I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had no idea where the danger show for this show is. This show could be safe, or it could be in trouble. I have no way of knowing. I won’t know until one day I look up and I realize the show hasn’t returned, or I see a press release announcing season 2.
