10 Ratings Blurbs: 3/1/16 Edition

This is the month where the rest of the broadcast shows return from winter break and gear up for the last push for the season.

1. The Voice (13.332 million 3.4)- These numbers are decent for a spring return of The Voice. It is certainly a relief to NBC, but they appear to have weathered the winter without the show.

2. Dance Moms (1.323 million 0.5)- These numbers have been pretty stable since the premiere. That is a good thing because it means the show is still on par with last season’s average.

3. Scandal (5.846 million 1.7)- I know people have been acting like the sky is falling with the numbers for this show and How to Get Away with Murder since returning from winter break. I’m a person who believes that neither show is in line to get canceled this season. This is a huge week for ABC midseason premieres. ABC’s drama slate is dreadful and the hopes are not high for the shows that have yet to air. This show is safe because ABC needs several breakout hit freshman shows to get out of the hole they are currently in.

4. Catfish: The TV Show (768,000 0.4)- These aren’t the greatest numbers for a premiere. I found them to be a little underwhelming. I wouldn’t feel this way if this was just an episode 6-7 weeks into the season, but for a premiere, the numbers are a little troubling. It makes me wonder if more drops are on the horizon.

5. The Originals (1.065 million 0.5)- This was really helped by a crossover special with The Vampire Diaries. The Vampire Diaries showed a little bit of improvement too but this show is on the list because the ratings increase was more dramatic.

6. Tamar & Vince (622,000 0.3)- I don’t know what happened to cause viewers to become so turned off by the show this season. I’m not going to blame it on the return of Scandal because the ratings loss happened well before then (despite both shows essentially sharing the same audience). I think the show has done well enough to earn a fifth season, but that remains to be seen.

7. Gotham (4.124 million 1.5)- It looks to be an average return for the show compared to how it was doing before the break. I am a little concerned about the numbers dropping, but FOX doesn’t have too much better going on for them. It makes me feel like the show is probably safe no matter what happens.

8. The Next 15 (198,000 0.1)- These numbers have continued to slide since the premiere. One would hope that the fourth episode of the season (airing tomorrow) would at least try to stop the declines, but that remains to be seen. What is obvious is that the show didn’t get off to a great start and sinking ratings are doing the show no favors. The chances of this show not living past one season seems to be growing every week.

9. David Tutera’s Celebrations (431,000 0.2)- This was part 2 of post-season Marriage Boot Camp special. I don’t really cover ratings for this show here but I have seen numbers for this show before. This is actually pretty high for the show. The total viewers usually hover just above the 300,000 viewer mark. I guess this show is really the standard for what numbers are acceptable on Fridays because this show keeps getting renewed and a show like Ex Isle (now under that 300k mark) is destined for cancellation.

10. Big Ang (709,000 0.3)- Last weekend, VH1 made the decision to run a marathon of this show after the new episode of Mob Wives as a tribute to the life of Angela ‘Big Ang’ Raiola. This number was for the first episode of the marathon and it was the only episode of the marathon that I could find numbers for.
