10 Ratings Blurbs: 4/15/14 Edition

This is a heavily cable centered list this week. I expect next week to change that a little since there will be some early broadcast finales to highlight.

1. Believe (4.34 million 1.0)- I have to think that this show probably isn’t going to get renewed. NBC has renewed shows with low ratings like this before (even this season) and they may still likely renew a show with even lower ratings than this but if the rumors of Celebrity Apprentice returning next midseason instead of the fall are true then there won’t be any room or use on the schedule for a show like this.

2. Real Housewives of Atlanta (3.816 million 1.7)- The fact that this didn’t hit 4 million for the finale is a little surprising but it is not troubling. Bravo is putting all their eggs in the basket with their supersized reunion so any ratings judgment will be reserved for that.

3. Justified (2.367 million 0.8)- This is just a formality more than anything. The numbers are ok and they were expected. This is the show that does its job and next year it will be called upon to do that job one final time.

4. The Challenge: Free Agents (955,000 0.6)- This may be a tiny bit low but one must remember that this most recent season of Real World put up similar premiere numbers and went on to have a very solid season. The sky isn’t falling at MTV over this show.

5. Teen Mom 2 (Tuesday: 2.152 million 1.2; Sunday Finale: 1.817 million 1.0)- At some point MTV needs to realize that the only awards show they have worth trying to provide any kind of exposure for any show is the VMA Awards. Also putting a show on before the awards preshow is nothing more than just fluff for the preshow because they already know that the only people who will show up are the fans of this show. With that being said this wasn’t a monster season but it gave MTV some hope that 2014 wouldn’t be a horrendous as 2013. Notice how at no point in the season they actually confirmed this was the final season of the show even though there were rumors that said this would be, The door is definitely still open. How wide is anyone’s guess.

6. Amish Mafia (2.452 million 0.9)- What I do know is this show is returning and it certainly deserves to return. When or how is beyond my field of knowledge but I can’t shake the feeling that 7 episodes and a special is a little too short for a full season.

7. 16 & Pregnant (1.194 million 0.7)- The original scheduling for this show seemed to indicate that MTV had very low expectations for this show. The flop status of House of Food (for the record I’m not entirely sure how the show is doing. I haven’t seen numbers for it because they are low) changes things and now MTV is forced to go with this on Monday. This isn’t a bad start but it isn’t knocking it out the park for a show that has been off the air for 2 years.

8. Real World: Ex-Plosion (588,000 0.4)- MTV and reunions have never been a good pair. Where other networks have thrived with reunions, MTV has really struggled. It makes me wonder if their reunion formula is different than that of other networks or if their random in-season aftershow specials really diminish the desire to see a reunion show.

9. Real Housewives of Orange County (1.703 million 0.8)- This show is the old show on the network and it is the middle show. The age gives the show a pass for not being as strong as Atlanta, New Jersey and Beverly Hills but the numbers keep it from looking like it needs to be taken out to pasture like New York and Miami. It works for now and this show continues to be the blueprint for what Bravo should continue to do with the franchise (which appears to be keeping it going until they can’t do it anymore).

10. Dallas (2.053 million 0.6)- This was a bump for the midseason finale. Not a very big bump and not a little one but a bump nonetheless. It will be interesting to see where and when the rest of the season 3 episodes are scheduled because TNT is a strong summer drama network and the year-round thing exposes the weakness of not quite being able to keep up with the likes of AMC, FX and USA.
