10 Ratings Blurbs: 4/3/18 Edition

A random mix of TV news this week. A few showed returned from breaks, a show aired it's season finale, yet another show began its final season and The CW renewed 70% of their shows.

1. Empire (6.217 million 2.0)- FOX has to be giving a sigh of relief over this show managing to squeak out a 2.0 demo after a brutally long winter break. It’s going to be tough to hold it. Spring is unkind to broadcast shows, but the positive here is that there shouldn’t be any breaks between now and the end of the season.

2. Real Housewives of Atlanta (1.930 million 0.8)- This is the weakest showing for a finale that I can remember. I feel like we can point to the fact that this show never saw that in-season ratings increase that we tend to see with Real Housewives shows. Maybe Easter put a little bit of a damper on the numbers, but I doubt it. There weren’t major hiatuses or lower ratings across all the networks on Sunday night.

3. Supernatural (2.034 million 0.7)- This is a pretty good return after a short break. The odds aren’t for this to remain hot the last month and a half of the season, but at least it has already secured its return for next season (The CW renewed 10 shows yesterday including this show and all five DC affiliated shows).

4. Real Housewives of Potomac (1.177 million 0.4)- This didn’t have the full glow of the RHOA lead-in, but I worry about these numbers when that glow goes away in four weeks.

5. Star (4.653 million 1.5)- I don’t know if these numbers will stay here, but these aren’t miserable numbers for this time of year on FOX.

6. Riverdale (961,000 0.3)- With the way this season started, this was a no-brainer for renewal. Now that the show’s current numbers have fallen slightly below its season 1 average, I think the biggest question surrounding this show is where it will go on next year’s schedule and if this show (instead of a new show or a veteran burnoff) could end up being the test balloon on Sundays.

7. The Americans (642,000 0.1)- Last season was a pretty weak outing for this show, but this season may look to be even weaker. For FX, these numbers probably won’t give them too much heartburn because it is the final season for the show and they are looking to newer shows to make more of a statement.

8. Chicago Med (5.807 million 1.0)- I guess This Is Us did provide a modest (but perhaps wasted) lead-in for this show. Now that it’s behind a show pulling lower numbers than this, we see it has to fight for every viewer, much like how Chicago Fire operates on Thursdays.

9. Scandal (3.712 million 0.8)- ABC decided to air the final stretch of episodes at 10pm. Going by these numbers, the exit will probably turn out to be less than memorable.

10. Untucked (409,000 0.2)- I tend not to care for aftershows. I think they are used as a means to fill space on a schedule when the network doesn’t want to waste the spot on reruns. This show is a little odd because its numbers tend to be a little closer to the main show than with most other aftershows. This did take a bigger drop than Drag Race from last week, but we will see how it goes. I would say that drops will likely hurt this show’s renewal chances more than a ratings drop would hurt Drag Race.
