10 Ratings Blurbs: 1/31/17 Edition

The Monday numbers were delayed a little, but they are here now.

1. The Flash (2.675 million 0.9)- We all know that broadcast shows these days tend to have a weaker winter and spring showing than they do in the fall. I expect this to continue to be the high water mark on the network. That will be helpful for evaluating all of the freshman shows since all the veterans that have aired at least one episode this season (minus The Vampire Diaries since it is the final season) has been renewed.

2. Scandal (7.623 million 2.0)- While this is a good premiere after a long hiatus and definitely sorely needed for ABC to help them with one night, I feel like it could have done a little better with that Grey’s Anatomy lead-in (that got 9.585 million with a 2.6 demo on Thursday).

3. Arrow (1.682 million 0.6)- This show hangs in the background. It probably doesn’t get the credit it should for being the pioneer of the DC takeover on The CW. This will probably never again be the top rated show on the network, but that’s okay. It continues to give the network the stability it needs.

4. The Haves and the Have Nots (2.359 million 0.6)- Yesterday, OWN announced that they would be ordering 44 more episodes for the show. It’s a massive number of episodes and my research tells me that that the order pushes the show to have a total episode count somewhere in the area of 140 episodes. It’s unreal to think of a drama having that many episodes while it is technically airing its fourth season.

5. Supernatural (1.720 million 0.6)- The longest tenured show on The CW (and the final holdover from the UPN/WB merger) will continue to live on into 2018. The only question surrounding the show is where it could possibly go on the schedule. It’s the most versatile show on the network.

6. How to Get Away with Murder (5.414 million 1.5)- There aren’t many episodes left and the bulk of the season was damaged by not having Scandal as a lead-in. This episode was up a little bit over those fall episodes, but ABC has had a horrific year for their dramas and I’m not convinced that this show is in danger of being canceled.

7. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (1.740 million 0.6)- If these were 8pm numbers, I would say they are adequate. Because these numbers were behind The Flash, they are still adequate, but only because The Flash was well under what I’m used to seeing for the show. This show needs to stay close to The Flash (and hope for a freshman show to not be a breakout hit) if it has any chance of getting its 8pm slot back.

8. Gotham (3.461 million 1.1)- This is the last episode before the real winter hiatus (the one in December was the normal holiday break). I feel like the numbers won’t tank because of the break, but FOX is certainly hoping that their new shows do better this.

9. Riverdale (1.378 million 0.5)- The numbers here aren’t bad, but they could be a little troubling because it is a premiere. Just have to watch and see where the show goes from here.

10. Elementary (5.436 million 0.7)- This is that weird time of the year where either Sunday shows don’t air because of a major event, or they air opposite a major event. For this show, both scenarios won’t necessarily help or hurt the ratings.
