10 Ratings Blurbs: 1/10/17 Edition

I'm finally back from my break that didn't turn out to be a break because I spent at least half of it being sick and another 2 weeks of it having computer issues. Hopefully, I'm still sharp at this.

1. The Haves and the Have Nots (2.989 million 0.9)- Another good premiere for this show. We know what to expect by now. These are perfectly normal numbers for the show.

2. Love & Hip Hop (2.180 million 1.1)- Most of the season has seen numbers around this level. Last week appears to be the only exception with numbers taking a dramatic jump. Football on Mondays are over for the season, so the numbers could go up, but the show is too deep in the season and I don’t see how the season doesn’t end with an overall ratings decline from last season.

3. Star (4.716 million 1.6)- I did take notice of the special premiere preview numbers while on my break last month. I thought that while last month’s numbers were no Empire, (it was somewhere over 6 million viewers and a 2.2 demo if I recall correctly) the show would be fine if it maintained those numbers. These numbers are a bit of a disappointment, but it still has a healthy cushion because their scripted shows (Empire being the exception) aren’t doing better than this.

4. Married to Medicine (1.065 million 0.4)- This show airing on Fridays is the one that I’ve probably had to made the biggest adjustment too. When I saw the numbers for the Houston version, I thought the network had it in burnoff mode (I wouldn’t count on a renewal for the Houston version, but stranger things have happened). These numbers are actually exceptional for Fridays. I think Bravo may have lucked up on not only another standalone show, but it shows they can program a dead night if they air something that people actually want to see and not foreign imports and burnoffs.

5. Chicago Med (6.233 million 1.2)- I know this aired on Thursday, but it is a little weird seeing that 1.2 demo for the show. It is even more weird because (as you can see below), the Chicago PD episode from the night before had roughly the same number of viewers with a more favorable demo. Thursday is definitely a weaker night for NBC, but it is possible that the numbers will find a comfortable level to settle.

6. Grimm (4.485 million 0.9)- By now, we’re all aware that this will be the final season of an unconventional and unexpected run for this show. The numbers here are pretty decent. If they hold, the show will have good, final run.

7. America’s Next Top Model (1.125 million 0.5)- You can look at these numbers two different ways. The first way is that these numbers have actually been an improvement over the last season when the show aired on The CW. Granted, the last season also aired on a Friday, the season began in August and the last CW season was in 2015. The second way is what to make of the show now. Despite VH1’s best efforts, I don’t think the show belongs on Monday and these numbers don’t justify keeping it on Monday. For now, I would think that the show should be in contention for renewal because of the ratings improvement, but I think they might want to consider a move to perhaps Wednesday night if they are serious about developing that night all year long (All signs show that they might be with Black Ink Crew returning next Wednesday).

8. Nashville (Premiere: 1.248 million 0.3; Episode 2: 1.203 million 0.3)- The numbers appear to be low, but you have to remember that the show moved from ABC to CMT. A decline is to be expected. From what I have seen of CMT numbers in the last 6 or so months, this would actually be at the top of the mountain. The show will be a success if the numbers are steady or if a few more those ABC viewers find the show.

9. Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars (532,000 0.2)- This had a very quick turnaround from the end of the last season (about 3 weeks). The numbers aren’t all that different from last season. The only reason why it isn’t a concern is because most of the other shows on the network will do roughly the same or worse than this.

10. Real World: Bad Blood (343,000 0.2)- This show had a rough season. It started off pretty bad and it didn’t get any better. This season could be the nail in the coffin, or it could be one of those seasons that MTV will take a mulligan on and try again with a more intriguing twist.
