10 Ratings Blurbs: 1/18/17 Edition

An extra day only made me more sluggish this week.

1. Real Housewives of Atlanta (2.632 million 1.0)- These numbers haven’t really changed since the beginning of the season. It’s a good thing, but it is also indicative of the wall the show appears to have hit. Since I’m not a believer of fixing what isn’t broken, I say let the show stay at the wall.

2. Chicago PD (6.603 million 1.5)- When I talked about Chicago Med last week, these were the demo numbers that I felt were a good fit for the number of viewers the show was getting. Though this would be nothing new, it does look like this show is on better night because it fits with the show it airs behind.

3. Being Mary Jane (1.187 million 0.6)- Given the state of BET’s scripted shows recently, this is a pretty good start. Now, the hope is that it doesn’t lose too many viewers who just tuned in for premiere curiosity.

4. Leave it to Stevie (1.791 million 0.9)- I have to think of this show as the reincarnation of Stevie J & Joseline Go Hollywood. Like that previous show, the ratings for this one aren’t noteworthy, but they are good enough to justify some sort of continuation. I’m just not sure what to make of it because all of these Love & Hip Hop spinoffs are so random and ratings are never to blame in the event that the show doesn't continue.

5. Project Runway: Junior (1.089 million 0.3)- This show isn’t as strong as the original or all-stars versions, but it hasn’t shown that it doesn’t deserve to keep a place on the schedule.

6. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2.715 million 0.8)- This show will spend the rest of the season in a highly uncomfortable position. ABC does not need to renew this. The only thing that saves the show is that they have had a dismal fall season trying to find new hit dramas (what’s new) and there isn’t much hype surrounding their new midseason shows. This show could be saved on the sole basis of ABC not wanting to be forced to fill too many problematic holes in their schedule next season (But numbers like last night’s episode will certainly hurt this show’s renewal chances).

7. Dance Moms (1.067 million 0.3)- I thought it was a little weird that the season started in December, but the numbers have looked normal. I haven’t seen anything over the last several weeks to make me think the show is losing steam.

8. Homeland (1.075 million 0.3)- It looks like the long hiatus wasn't very kind to the show, but these numbers would still put the show in very good standing at Showtime. Perhaps the numbers will improve as viewers get used to the show airing in the winter instead of the fall.

9. Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars (398,000 0.2)- This is a dramatic drop for the show and this looks like a series low to me. It’s not odd, but clearly the woes of the network are spreading to the veteran shows too.

10. The Vampire Diaries (951,000 0.4)- The home stretch is upon us. This is that odd stretch where the only time I consider putting this show back on the list before the finale is when I will need a show for filler. These numbers are irrelevant and I’m not expecting some miraculous ratings surge over the next couple of months.
