10 Ratings Blurbs: 2/7/17 Edition

I'm usually more enthusiastic about the Super Bowl, but I think the archives of this site show that I am never here for the Patriots winning anything.

1. Super Bowl LI (111.317 million 37.1)- This is down slightly from last year and it is down about 3 million viewers from the record set two years ago. The number will certainly give FOX a seasonal average boost, but it appears that is all this may do.

2. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (1.666 million 0.6)- I forget about this show, but it does well on Tuesday nights. Tuesdays are generally rocky this time of year, but the show has managed to be a reliable source of distraction for fans seeking an escape.

3. Leave it to Stevie (1.682 million 0.9)- This show has done well enough to be renewed, but renewal isn't guaranteed. The concept does allow the show to return as-is, but don’t be surprised if it is recycled again to fit a new narrative.

4. 2 Broke Girls (5.981 million 1.3)- CBS bumped this away from the 9pm slot hoping that they could continue their streak of finding hit freshman comedies this year. Right now, they have not been vindicated in their decision and they may have put themselves in a position where they have to choose between a mediocre freshman series with unknown syndication potential and a veteran with a lucrative syndication deal, but declining present-day ratings.

5. Hell’s Kitchen (3.669 million 1.1)- The Gordon Ramsay shows don’t have the steam they had just a few short years ago. That being said, what they do have is strength in numbers and ratings stability. FOX has a lot of problem areas on the network and the trio of Hell’s Kitchen, MasterChef and MasterChef Junior have at least given them one hour year-round that they don’t need to worry about.

6. K. Michelle: My Life (1.404 million 0.7)- By now, we all know that a Love & Hip Hop spinoff doesn’t mean that the star is then divorced from the original franchise. This show proves that and I think it returns either in between breaks of their two new scripted shows or if one of those shows doesn’t do well and they need something quick to replace it.

7. Nashville (750,000 0.2)- Up until this week’s episode, the numbers hadn’t drifted too far away from where it premiered. The margins are small and it is not easy to know where the cancellation line is. At the moment, CMT appears to be committed to the show.

8. Switched at Birth (598,000 0.2)- This isn’t the only final season show on the list this week, but unlike the other show (2 spots down), the run has only just begun. These numbers are not surprising because we saw the numbers around this area at the end of last season. Freeform still hasn’t found their footing a year after the rebrand, but it is obvious that the network is making the correct call to end the show.

9. America’s Next Top Model (539,000 0.2)- I was expecting a decline when the show moved from Monday to Wednesday. I was not expecting the show to lose nearly half of its Monday viewers, especially when its new lead-in (Black Ink Crew) also draws over a million viewers. I will say that VH1 botched the move a little by announcing it on short notice, so we’ll see if some of those viewers figure out the new night and come back to the show.

10. Teen Wolf (445,000 0.2)- There are now ten episodes left in a run that will almost certainly conclude before the end of this year. After this ends, the most veteran scripted show on the network will be Scream. That may motivate them to try to figure out some kind of promotional push to either make the show have a strong finish or get viewers hooked on a new show. There’s time to come up with something.
