10 Ratings Blurbs: 5/3/16 Edition

I'm going cable heavy for the list this week. Just about all of the broadcast shows will end in the next 3 weeks and I want to have room for those.

1. Scandal (6.254 million 1.6)- News came in yesterday that ABC is reducing next season’s episode order (going from 22 to 16 episodes). Clearly this is 100% motivated by the announcement of the lead actress’ pregnancy. It’s going to prove to be a highly tricky to try to efficiently schedule what ABC believed was their strongest night and they don’t have a lot of time to figure it out.

2. Love & Hip Hop Atlanta (2.732 million 1.4)- I hear that this will air a new episode on Sunday (presumably to help their Mother’s Day special). This show can and will survive the temporary move. I just wonder if it’s worth it because the ratings have been very steady despite being down from the first 4 seasons.

3. Keeping Up with the Kardashians (2.194 million 1.1)- Are these super high ratings? No. Are these super low ratings? No. Are these ratings normal for this show? Yes.

4. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (1.858 million 0.7)- A lot of eyes will be on The CW when their schedule comes out in a couple of weeks. As we all know, every show on the network except Containment is renewed. Also, no one knows how many new pilots they will order for next fall. I think a lot of people have a general idea of how the schedule will look, but this network is notorious for taking risks and throwing curveballs. I don’t know what that means for this show. It could stay in place, but it is clearly not a strong anchor show like Arrow or The Flash.

5. Catfish: The TV Show (1.014 million 0.5)- This got a little bit of a bump from that extended episode last week. I can’t begin to pose a theory about why other than it was probably heavily promoted. This may be a small footnote, but MTV can’t be picky about good news. They have too many other shows doing worse than this.

6. The Voice (Tuesday 4/26: 10.070 million 2.0; Monday 5/2: 9.968 million 2.1)- NBC is going to really have to watch this show closely next year. We could be looking at the very real possibility of this show averaging 0.4 demo points than it is now at this time next year.

7. Teen Mom 2 (1.542 million 0.9)- I don’t talk about this show much because the ratings don’t change much and it’s still MTV’s highest rated show.

8. Real Housewives of NYC (1.322 million 0.5)- Two things are obvious about this show. It is not going to gain any significant number of viewers in the foreseeable future. The other fact is that it probably won’t lose a large amount of viewers either (I’m talking about more than 500k). There is nothing else that Bravo can do to try to help this show and I think they are coming around to the thought of just accepting what they get from it.

9. Hell’s Kitchen (2.194 million 1.1)- It feels like I keep saying that FOX needs to stop using these Gordon Ramsay shows as a Band-Aid to fix their problems. I should probably stop expecting them to do that. I don’t see an end to their mess anytime soon.

10. Ru Paul’s Drag Race (358,000 0.2)- These numbers look fine to me. I just needed a show to fill out the rest of the list.
