10 Ratings Blurbs: 4/26/16 Edition

Just another average ratings week complete with a couple of dominant shows and everything else.

1. Game of Thrones (7.944 million 4.0)- This isn’t far off from last season’s premiere (which I believe also serves as the series high). These are very good numbers and HBO is poised to dominate Sunday nights this spring.

2. Chicago Fire (8.169 million 1.7)- NBC should give serious consideration to move this show next season. It has proven that it can attract and hold viewers with and without help of The Voice and they have serious problems on Thursdays. It would be a smart move, but I don’t know if NBC thinks it’s the right move. They may not want to premiere this in September, put the show on hiatus in early November and then it can’t return until January.

3. Empire (9.562 million 3.7)- Some people will note that this show is finally experiencing the sophomore slump. They wouldn’t be wrong. These numbers are falling. However, the current broadcast TV landscape is so bad that this is still crushing every other show on FOX.

4. Black Ink Crew (2.252 million 1.3)- This show has been stable since its return. Most of that is because Love & Hip Hop Atlanta also hasn’t shown much movement in the ratings. I doubt things will change too much unless there’s some sort of attention grab episode or a useless 2 week break somewhere in the pipeline.

5. Little Women LA (1.429 million 0.6)- This came up a little bit for the finale. Overall, it was a decent ratings season. I saw no warning flags here and it should return for another season.

6. Veep (1.098 million 0.5)- We know the HBO comedies (this show and Silicon Valley) are in the weird position of having terrible retention from Game of Thrones while also outperforming basically every other show on the network. That’s why HBO keeps renewing them (yes this show is renewed for next season with Silicon Valley and Game of Thrones). This train will keep rolling until someone wants it to end.

7. Dance Moms (1.404 million 0.5)- It’s very easy to forget about this show airing on Tuesdays, but it holds its own there. This is a show with exceptionally long seasons and very few breaks. People like the original show and it’s a good idea to give them what they want when the ratings call for it.

8. Grimm (3.894 million 0.9)- The news surrounding this show over the weekend was that NBC decided to only pick up 13 episodes for next season. Naturally, this fueled speculation that the network may consider next season to be the final season. NBC won’t admit that now, but they will at least have to address it at the upfronts next month.

9. I Am Cait (864,000 0.3)- 3 weeks ago, this show looked dead in the water. These last 2 episodes have seen drastic ratings improvements. E! is the kind of network that rewards strong finishes. I would not be surprised if this returns for season 3.

10. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (2.845 million 0.9)- A lot of people are wondering what the future holds for this show. I’m not talking about the renewal prospects (the show is renewed for next season). I’m referring to how ABC may schedule it. At this point, I can’t see a scenario where it doesn’t air on Tuesdays. It wouldn't benefit this show or the network if it changes nights. The argument will be if it stands pat at 9 or if it fixes a longtime problem and finally moves to 10pm.
