10 Ratings Blurbs: 9/2/15 Edition

Better late than never. If I would have had to wait longer then I may not have bothered to do the post this week.

1. Love & Hip Hop Atlanta (3.410 million 1.7)- Under no standards did this show have a bad season. Yes, the ratings were noticeably lower than the first 3 seasons but they were still higher than everything else on VH1. No one will be surprised to see this return for a fifth season next year.

2. 2015 Video Music Awards (5.025 million 2.6)- If we just take the MTV ratings (and not the telecasts from the other 9 Viacom networks) then this is down sharply from last year. I’m guessing the people at MTV already knew this was coming so that’s why this aired on so many networks.

3. Awkward (1.287 million 0.7)- This is officially the start of the final season and that means the ratings are no longer important. If this is yet another split season thing (and I believe it is). Then this first half will probably be the forgotten half. It won’t matter where the ratings go from here because the actual series finale is still a long way off and there’s no expectation to start building towards that finale yet.

4. Black Ink Crew (2.394 million 1.3)- I’m only putting this here because I just found out about the new Chicago spinoff from this show. I’m not sure what to make of that show’s prospects. Chicago based reality shows tend not to do well (I’m not just talking about VH1, I’m saying this in general) and I don’t see franchise possibilities with this show. I think this particular show (the original) does well but at the moment, my hopes aren’t high on the spinoff achieving the same level of success. I guess I need to see how Love & Hip Hop Hollywood returns to see if there is even a chance for Black Ink Crew: Chicago to survive.

5. She’s Got Game (1.721 million 1.0)- Sometime a couple weeks ago, VH1 made the last minute decision to swap this with Black Ink Crew. So far, it is looking like a good decision. Black Ink Crew is strong and the ratings for this show haven’t trailed off much so while VH1 isn’t getting a powerhouse Monday block, they are getting a strong and highly competitive one. I’m still nervous that the ratings will fall over the next couple of weeks but right now, the show is not performing terribly.

6. Real Housewives of New York City (Reunion Part 2- 1.390 million 0.6; Reunion Part 3 844,000 0.3)- If Bravo is resigned to dealing with getting the status quo with this show then they should stick with it. They know what they are getting with it and no amount of changes will bring new viewers to the show (or lose the viewers that they already have). I don’t know what is keeping the show alive but it looks like these stagnant ratings are one of those factors.

7. Candidly Nicole (300,000 0.1)- This show still has quite a bit of ground to make up just to pull even with last season’s dismal average (Last season’s average was 417,000 viewers and this episode was the first of the season to hit the 300k mark). I can’t ignore that the season average is climbing a little bit but these numbers are still pretty low.

8. Under the Dome (4.60 million 0.9)- So CBS decided to go ahead and cancel the show meaning the series finale will air next week. From a ratings standpoint, the news is not shocking. The ratings are awful this season. While Extant has similar ratings, it has far different circumstances surrounding it and I don’t think it’s appropriate to use this show to try to guess what CBS will do with Extant.

9. Hannibal (1.24 million 0.3)- The end came for this show and it almost seems unfair that the preliminary ratings made it appear that the show might have actually gone out on a high note (football was to blame for that). This was a show that really shouldn’t have lived past season 1 so getting to season 3 is a miracle and the fans should be grateful for it.

10. America’s Best Dance Crew (Wednesday: 573,000 0.3; Saturday Finale: 478,000 0.2)- This was a horrible season for the show. It was a short season and basically a gimmicky all-star season but it’s one MTV could have kept unless the purpose was to fully kill the show.
