10 Ratings Blurbs: 7/9/14 Edition

I may be missing the numbers to one show here but I've waited far too long and it is time for this post to go up.

1. The Haves and the Have Nots (3.476 million 0.9)- This show took a huge leap from the previous episode and that makes the people at OWN happy. It at least shows that there is some life in this show and it is not showing a summer slump like some other veteran shows are doing.

2. Bad Girls Club: Chicago (1.735 million 0.8)- This one episode of ratings signifies 3 major things with this show. The first is that of course this is a season high for the show. The second is not only is this a season high but this one episode out-rated every episode of season 11 and every episode of season 10 except part 3 of the reunion. The third thing is that this one episode also boosted the season average of this show high enough that it has now overtaken season 11 and is within striking distance of surpassing season 10. One more episode of numbers like this at any point in the season will probably push the average over season 10’s.

3. Beauty and the Beast (763,000 0.3)- What we’re certain of is this show will not show up before 2015. What we’re not certain of is how early into 2015 this show appears. If The CW is smart then they won’t premiere season 3 until March or April and let the show run into the summer but their level of success next year will probably determine when this show comes along.

4. Hollywood Exes (883,000 0.4)- I can’t say I’m 100% surprised that VH1 decided to cap this Wednesday block at 8 episodes. I’ve maintained that VH1 quietly wants to get rid of all 3 of those shows for vastly different reasons. This show will be the hardest to get rid of because the ratings are up from last season and that is a claim that the other 2 shows aren’t going to be able to make.

5. Real Housewives of Atlanta: Kandi’s Wedding (2.820 million 1.2)- These numbers are really good for the end of a wedding special but I also think these numbers could possibly show Bravo that they need to be more selective with who they give wedding specials to. This is the fourth one they have done in the last 2 years and this is the highest rated one. Should they do another one they need to be very sure that the woman they give it to is someone that viewers like and want to watch.

6. Marrying The Game (876,000 0.5)- Though this bounced back from last week I’m still inclined to believe this is the end of the road for this show. There’s nothing left that VH1 can do with it. It didn’t go in the direction that the network wanted it to go but ratings forced a 3rd season to be made. Now we are at the end of this third season and VH1 has a justifiable reason not to bring this show back (From what I hear there was no cliffhanger like at the end of season 2 and of course ratings are down sharply from season 2). The only way this comes back is if somehow the rest of the year outside of Love & Hip Hop (Atlanta and New York) just implodes. I don’t see that happening so I don’t see this coming back.

7. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo (1.038 million 0.4)- This could just be a matter of having depressed ratings the day before a holiday and if that is the case then this is a pretty severe drop and TLC better hope this bounces back next week.

8. 16 & Pregnant (930,000 0.5)- MTV is at a true crossroads with the entire franchise. The only viable thing from this is Teen Mom 2. This show is clearly in an uncertain and unsettled position and given the woes of Teen Mom 3 (purported to be canceled but has not been verbalized directly by MTV) one has to be sure that there isn’t a strong desire to put a Teen Mom 4 in production. I’m expecting that MTV will be quiet for a very long time about this show.

9. Witches of East End (1.121 million 0.5)- Lifetime needs to show a high level of concern here. These numbers are very low and it is almost a good thing that this doesn’t look to have the older skew of a scripted show because that demo would be dangerously low if it were. You’re not going to see any PR spin from Lifetime about these numbers.

10. La La’s Full Court Life (616,000 0.3)- I have not seen the numbers for this show and if I ever see them they will be here. With that being said I don’t need the numbers to say what I’m going to say. This show is again a bubble show. Why? Because if you haven’t been following the NBA then you don’t know that Carmelo Anthony is in self-induced basketball limbo. He has the choice of staying in New York or moving elsewhere and what he does along with the fate of Hollywood Exes will be the deciding factors as to what happens with this show (Agonizing over possibly moving to a new city is enough for a storyline for a new season and this is a 30 minute show with ratings that are no longer good enough to be on Mondays or be on a night by itself. Hollywood Exes can be on a night with no show around it but this show can’t and VH1 would be shooting themselves in the foot by exiling Black Ink Crew or Family Hustle away from Mondays to pair up with an aging show like this).
