10 Ratings Blurbs: 7/2/14 Edition

May be a day late but when factors beyond my control come calling I have no choice but to be patient.

1. 2014 BET Awards (7.500 million 3.1)- I’m not surprised with how this did. I expected numbers like this and my only criticism is that BET knows this their most watched day of the year and didn’t have anything ready for the viewers to sample afterwards.

2. The Challenge: Free Agents (1.146 million 0.7)- All signs are pointing to this being the finale but I’m not quite sure if it is. If it is the finale then this was a fairly stagnant season in terms of ratings and it doesn’t look like the twist helped the show at all so we’ll see what MTV wants to do with it.

3. Big Brother (Wednesday: 6.71 million 2.3; Thursday: 6.56 million 2.3; Sunday: 5.68 million 1.8)- The Sunday numbers are a little soft but overall this isn’t a bad premiere week for the show. Since CBS has more original programming airing this summer there isn’t very much pressure for this show to carry the load and that makes numbers like these acceptable.

4. Real Housewives of Orange County (1.770 million 0.8)- At this point in the season the numbers have held pretty steady. It isn’t doing as well as it was doing last season but these numbers aren’t bad and pretty much what Bravo expects from this show anyway. I think Bravo just treats this show as the blueprint for what to do with their other Real Housewives shows since this one is the oldest.

5. Beyond Scared Straight (1.442 million 0.5)- I didn’t realize this was back already but with normal numbers like these it’s not hard for me to forget about it.

6. Under the Dome (9.41 million 2.1)- CBS has to be happy with this premiere. It isn’t as strong as last season’s opener but clearly the interest is still there and the summer scripted show bar is quite low so I can’t see how these numbers are disappointing.

7. La La’s Full Court Life (613,000 0.3)- The two week break wasn’t kind to this show and it looks bad when the reason why this was offset for a week didn’t do better than this. It was a bad move on VH1’s part but it is pretty late in the season for one episode to make much of a difference (however the numbers for this episode did push this show down to being the lowest rated show of this year so far).

8. Return to Amish (1.712 million 0.5)- A few weeks in I have to say that the total viewers for this show aren’t bad. They are still in good territory and there’s no cause for concern there. The demo is a little low in my opinion. I do realize that TLC shows skew older than most other reality shows but even with that being the case that still put the demo of this show in a little bit of a danger zone. It is something that will need to be watched but right now the total viewers are good enough to keep the show out of trouble.

9. Marrying The Game (556,000 0.3)- The hiatus hit this show extremely hard. I’m aware that the end of this season is close but these numbers are bad and I don’t think VH1 cares all that much. Like La La’s show, these numbers probably won’t factor much in the fate of this show.

10. Rake (1.28 million 0.3)- This is the true series finale and now FOX doesn’t have to deal with the burden of having an unaired episode of this show on their books. They are too busy bracing for the carnage sure to come next season.
