10 Ratings Blurbs: 7/22/14 Edition

There are a ton of premieres this week and most of them are from VH1. I can't say the numbers are too promising for the majority of those shows.

1. Married to Medicine (970,000 0.4)- Bravo has a serious problem with this show and I don’t think they are going to do anything to admit it or address it. When the show has a great deal of help the numbers are disappointing but they are too good to cancel. When this show loses the help the numbers tank and it really exposes how this show doesn’t really have the audience that the season average would suggest it has. Because they have another show like this (Blood, Sweat and Heels), I don’t see the purpose of punishing this one with cancellation but they better do something with it and be firm about what the expectations for the future are with this show.

2. Dating Naked (826,000 0.4)- This did a lot better than I expected it to do. Given the results of the other 3 new premieres this week VH1 has to be encouraged but they can’t get too hasty about these numbers. This is just the premiere. If it can manage to not lose more than 250,000 viewers in the next 3-4 weeks then VH1 will have a reason to feel good about this show. It probably won’t take much for VH1 to renew this show because all of these new shows had a great deal of promotion and when 2 of them are DOA on the first week you want to take any victory you can get.

3. Teen Mom 2 (2.200 million 1.3)- This isn’t a bad return for the show and clearly MTV thought it was necessary to make more episodes. I can’t blame them for that decision because this is their highest rated show currently.

4. Return to Amish: The Shunning Truth (1.627 million 0.7)- This season feels like it went by pretty fast. The numbers aren’t notable but they aren’t terrible. The show has been fairly stable and I can see TLC wanting to do another season even though the show really didn’t take off the way they had hoped after season 1.

5. Candidly Nicole (551,000 0.3)- The numbers for this show aren’t all that surprising. They are about where I expected the whole night to be to be honest. At the moment this is on the low side of the line that VH1 would probably use to save a non-Monday show. Since this is the premiere there is always the great possibility that the numbers will drop from here so this isn’t exactly the greatest position for this show.

6. Duck Dynasty (Wednesday: 3.740 million 1.4; Behind the Quack Part 3: 1.279 million 0.4)- I’m really just adding this because of the special. At this point in the show’s history, I’m not sure how beneficial specials are to this show anymore. To be honest this didn’t do all that much better than the rerun episodes that aired around it.

7. Leann & Eddie (374,000 0.2)- This show is what you would call a flop. You can’t blame promotion and you can’t really blame the lead-in. Those things were not the issue here. This is just the result of viewers soundly rejecting this show.

8. Don’t Be Tardy (1.122 million 0.5)- This is a little bit low but it is to be expected and I don’t think Bravo cares too much at the moment. This show has seen worse days.

9. Behind the Music: Linda Perry (243,000 0.2)- I find it a little ironic that more people watched this than her actual show. It somewhat shows that people care more about the artists and their background than anything else they decide to do. Still that doesn’t mean these numbers are good because they aren’t.

10. Make or Break: The Linda Perry Project (219,000 0.2)- My reasoning for VH1 putting this on Wednesdays as opposed to just creating one massive Thursday block is that either they wanted the music show to have a separate night or they thought the show was a little more serious than the other 3 shows. Whatever the case may be, this is a dead show walking. These are extremely low ratings and I don’t think VH1 cares if this show finds a way to fight or not.
