Another meatier post this week. It's making me a little nervous. I know things are about to get very slow in a few weeks.
1. CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story (4.485 million 2.4)- I didn’t have any personal predictions or expectations for this. I knew there was in insane amount of promotion for this. Maybe some people will think it should have done better but as it stands this is the highest rated single telecast for VH1 since April 2008 (The Rock of Love 2 finale which got 5.028 million viewers. There are some scattered episodes of 4 different shows that have seen 4 million viewers since then but none have been above 4.4 million viewers). That said this did very well and VH1 is pleased.
2. Catfish: The TV Show (Finale: 1.816 million 1.0, Reunion: 1.257 million 0.7)- In a way I’m glad MTV doesn’t break up their finale and reunion shows. Reunion shows have never been a strong suite of theirs and the finale isn’t really an improvement from last week (though it is up from the episode that aired two weeks ago). MTV messed up with this show. It is not showing the promise that it showed during season 1.
3. Project Runway (2.682 million 0.9)- It’s getting so hard to keep up with this show. It runs for a ridiculously long time and now that Lifetime has the All-Stars seasons running, this show is really never off the air. However Lifetime hasn’t really solved their reality show problem and they have still committed to a couple more seasons of this show so on it goes.
4. Duck Dynasty (7.260 million 2.9)- Now that these numbers are coming back down to earth you have to acknowledge that this show skews ridiculously old (This is in Project Runway and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo skew territory even though those shows have a fraction of the viewers that this one has). This show is still doing well and there really isn’t anything to worry about but perhaps it has hit its peak. I’ll need to see the finale numbers to be sure about that.
5. Real Husbands of Hollywood (3.540 million 1.8)- This is pretty standard for BET. Their shows almost always have great premiere ratings and proceed to fall after that. Should end up right where it was last season with just over 2 million viewers and a 1.0-1.2 demo.
6. America’s Next Top Mode (1.10 million 0.4)- Apparently this is good enough for yet another season since The CW made that official last week. They must think that the return of Nikita and The Carrie Diaries are only good for getting 0.3 in the demo. Also ironic is the fact that this is a Friday show that started in August but is doing better than Beauty and the Beast.
7. Basketball Wives 5 (2.233 million 1.1)- I had a very strong feeling that this show was going to end with this number (well the 2.2 million part). Now I don’t care about casting, I don't care about how long or short the show stays off the air between seasons and I don’t care about whatever convoluted negotiations that may or may not happen but if this show doesn’t come back (and I do not believe that will be the case) it will absolutely not be because of ratings. VH1 will do everything in their power to get yet another season out of this show with these numbers.
8. Bad Girls Club: Miami (891,000 0.4)- No doubt this is horrible for this show. At this late point in the season it is really looking like this will be the lowest rated season since season 3 (and the show has declined every season since season 8). It also looks bad that the gap between this and Preachers of LA has gotten bigger. Oxygen has been waiting for years to find a show to replace this one and while I don’t think they have found it yet, they may be beginning to see a scenario in which they can envision a stable future without this show.
9. Homeland (1.772 million 0.7)- This is no Dexter but it’s not a bad replacement. They aren’t suffering with this show being the flagship show of the network and it shall continue that task since it was given its fourth season renewal today.
10. Revenge (6.16 million 1.5)- This has got to be very troubling for ABC. Their Sunday nights are crumbling (as is Tuesday nights to be honest). This show is really going to be the true test of the syndication rule because this is also one of the shows slated to go on a very long hiatus over the winter.
