10 Ratings Blurbs 10/15/13 Edition

This is one of those weeks where everything I had to say is all in the post and there is really no need for a formal introduction.

1. The Walking Dead (16.111 million 8.2)- This is another one of those shows where if the ratings had gone up a little bit I wouldn’t have been surprised. This however is ridiculous. How can anyone not be surprised by numbers this huge? Expect more networks to closely analyze what AMC is doing in terms of marketing because they are going to copy it if they can.

2. Arrow (2.74 million 0.9)- No doubt The CW is pleased with the total viewers of this show but I imagine they were expecting the demo to reach 1.0. They aren’t concerned yet because it does look like they made actually have some success in The Originals and The Tomorrow People but for now it is only October and the vitality of the network depends on stability since the numbers as a whole for every show they have aren’t very large.

3. T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle 3 (1.836 million 0.9)- Very long season has now come to an end and it is currently VH1’s #2 show for the year. Love & Hip Hop can threaten it but that would also mean increasing its own numbers from the season that aired earlier this year (it ranks #5 currently and can still drop to 6th before the new season begins). I will not be surprised if this show returns for a fourth season. It is all a matter of when it happens.

4. The New Atlanta (742,000 0.3)- This show is inching closer and closer to getting canceled especially because I Dream of NeNe has remained relatively stable. The numbers have not stopped dropping and it is getting to the point where this is not acceptable for a show that Bravo didn’t have very much stock in to begin with. Looks like Mona Scott-Young is going to have 2 flops on her hands for the year. That’s the problem with crating a franchise that you can’t quite free yourself from. It gets harder to sell other projects to networks and their audiences.

5. Tough Love: Co-Ed (190,000 0.1)- Whether or not this is the last time I see ratings for this show this season just know that I believe this is the end of the road for this show. This is the lowest rated season by far (even with me missing 3 episodes of ratings info) and this number is looking more like what their Friday shows get. VH1 is not going to renew this show. This is the end and it had a good run.

6. Supernatural (2.59 million 1.2)- This pulled off the surprise of being The CW’s highest rated demo show for the week. Sure it might dip a little but even still it could be the top CW show along with The Vampire Diaries, Arrow and The Originals (The Tomorrow People may be in the discussion too if those numbers hold steady). So far it looks like The CW may have created 3 stable nights for the week and they owe many thanks to this show for making that possible.

7. Preachers of LA (1.078 million 0.4)- This is the first time ever that a show that was not placed behind Bad Girls Club has bested Bad Girls Club in total viewers for the week. I don’t expect the numbers to hold here. I’m not sure anyone expects the numbers to hold here but this show can lose 600,000 viewers over the course of the season and still get renewed. Actually this one episode pretty much solidifies its renewal. Oxygen is really hurting for shows.

8. American Horror Story: Coven (5.538 million 3.0)- Thursday afternoon this was a good story. Had I not already known that The Walking Dead was returning this may have actually been my headline story for the week. You can’t take anything away from FX this fall because they have had a great showing on the drama front but it’s just the luck of the draw that the headlines have all gone to AMC with their total domination these last 2 months.

9. Once Upon a Time in Wonderland (5.82 million 1.7)- Everyone was fearing this and everyone was expecting this. The minute ABC scheduled this show to air 8pm Thursdays most people believed this show was going to die. Now we’re all aware that Revenge and Nashville are also in this same ratings area but should push come to shove, this would be the show of the three to get canceled first because it’s a freshman show and history states that the numbers are likely to decrease by approximately 20% for episode 2. As it stands it’s not a dead show walking but it’s not on the good side of surviving either.

10. Glee (7.39 million 2.9)- FOX needed this and this show needed this. It’s unfortunate that a boost like this had to come in the form of a tribute episode to a deceased cast member but that is the reality of the situation. Now one has to wonder if this is temporary or of some of the old viewers will give this show another chance.
