10 Ratings Blurbs 9/24/13 Edition

The real rush begins but can't say anything has gotten particularly interesting just yet.

1. Ridiculousness (1.305 million 0.6)- So this show ended up improving over the last 3 episodes for the finale but given where it was over a month ago this is still on the lower end of how it was performing. MTV decided to give this show yet another chance but with no major hit shows they don’t have a choice since this is still an above average performer for them.

2. I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding (1.564 million 0.6)- This could be better but it’s not an awful start. I forget how long this is supposed to run and I’m too lazy to go look that up right now but stability or improvement is what this needs to show going forward.

3. Devious Maids (2.952 million 1.1)- Clearly Lifetime sees this show as their headline scripted show of the future (especially since they have now canceled Army Wives). I can understand the high amount of confidence they have for this show but what I’m not fully grasping is that they seem to only want 1-2 successful scripted shows and only want to push the panic button when they start to age or get weaker.

4. America’s Got Talent (Tuesday & Wednesday Finale: 11.19 million (2.4 Tue) (2.5 Wed))- This show has one job and one job only to do over the summer and that is to hold down the fort and give NBC some kind of platform to promote their new shows with. That’s what this show does and not one person is upset about that.

5. Dexter (2.799 million 1.3)- This seems a little insignificant especially since Breaking Bad (another show heading into a series finale this month) has gone on a tear but one can’t diminish what this show has done for Showtime. This show proved that Showtime can at least see some kind of success with scripted shows. While the ratings may not mirror that of the powerhouse HBO shows of the past or present, it has given Showtime the formula and the confidence to eventually find the show that will earn the acclaim, buzz and high ratings that they know they can achieve.

6. Black Ink Crew (1.400 million 0.8)- A Tad bit low but since it’s not all that far off from Family Hustle this did about as well as it could possibly do. As the third show in line VH1 can’t expect much from it especially since their 8pm show can’t consistently earn 2 million viewers every week.

7. Tiny Tonight ATL!: Ladies Night Special (686,000 0.4)- Given VH1’s troubles on every night that doesn’t start with the letter M, this really isn’t a bad showing. I don’t know why they keep doing these specials. I think they want to give themselves a reason to greenlight a full season but this keeps delivering ok numbers and nothing that VH1 should really get excited about especially since it underperforms on Mondays.

8. The Mindy Project (3.83 million 1.9)- This is a horrible start no matter how you look at it. This is a show that FOX renewed far too early last season when the ratings were still somewhat tolerable. Then the numbers fell off and it looks like there isn’t much renewed interest in this new season. FOX has a couple of comedies waiting in the wings so if this falls back into that 1.3-1.4 demo territory and nothing else around it has dropped to similar or lower numbers then this is likely going to be pulled off the schedule or swapped with one of those comedies to air on Fridays (another option is going to Sundays before the animation block).

9. Big Brother (6.71 million 2.5)- Controversial season ends with less than controversial ratings. They’re good enough for another season (and the show will return next summer) and they are an improvement from the beginning of the season. Perhaps CBS will learn that controversy is not going to save this old show.

10. The Voice (14.98 million 5.1)- So this show is apparently up from the last 2 seasons. Of course that’s more than enough to send NBC over the moon but what they need to worry about is everything that airs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
