10 Ratings Blurbs 7/23/13 Edition

This is one of those rare weeks where I really didn't have to wait for anything because there wasn't anything airing yesterday that needed to be talked about.

1. The Game (2.483 million 1.2)- No this is nowhere near what it did for the midseason premiere a few weeks ago but it’s managing to do slightly better than the winter episodes. Perhaps the show isn’t quite ready to give up the title of being BET’s highest rated show just yet.

2. Ridiculousness (1.496 million 0.7)- This show is no Thursday night savior but after the disaster that was The Show with Vinny it’s certainly good enough for MTV and for the first week in a very long time, they have had 4 consecutive nights with shows turning in decent performances.

3. Princesses: Long Island (886,000 0.4)- Real Housewives of New Jersey now appears to be getting better numbers and this show isn’t. I don’t think anyone expected this show to increase by 700,000 viewers over the last couple of weeks but given the growth of RHNJ it was at least reasonable to expect this show to finally reach that 1 million viewer threshold and yet it still hasn’t. That gap between the two shows might make Bravo feel like they can do better.

4. Drop Dead Diva (2.202 million 0.7)- Like the show above this one, the show it’s paired with (Devious Maids) is getting better ratings and this is staying the same. However this is a different situation. These numbers can conceivably still get the show renewed (The Client List had the same numbers and Lifetime has expressed a desire to renew that show but the star’s pregnancy is holding that news up). These numbers can also conceivably get the show canceled (as what happened last year before it was saved). So while they do have success in Devious Maids the rest of their scripted lineup is in disarray because of factors that really have nothing to do with ratings and this show is in the middle of that.

5. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo (Premiere: 2.837 million 1.0; Episode 2: 2.918 million 1.0)- I think this is a little down from last year’s premiere but it’s still a pretty good performance for TLC. People do have to remember though that this show tends to skew quite a bit older in the demo than other reality shows (The irony considering the age of the star). That’s why I’m not really surprised at the demo as it compares to the total viewers.

6. Anger Management (886,000 0.5)- Not that it wasn’t obvious back then but that test run of this show on FOX last month really didn’t do anything to help the ratings for this show. It’s a given what will happen when the run ends but I’m wondering what network will really want to pay for the syndicated episodes of this show.

7. Project Runway (1.736 million 0.5)- I feel like this show is making a long, slow march to its death. I think Lifetime committed themselves to far too many seasons when they never really got the show that was the powerhouse it was when it still aired on Bravo.

8. Breaking Amish: LA (1.940 million 0.7)- As an aside I have to say I’ve long grown tired of shows trying to stay “fresh” by adding a city to the title and yet only 4 cities are typically in the rotation. That being said the ratings for this aren’t terrible but they aren’t overly impressive either.

9. Catfish: The TV Show (2.366 million 1.3)- After a good first week and a not so good second week, this show seems to have found its footing again. The numbers really aren’t anything to jump for joy over but as it stands this is MTV’s highest rated show at the moment and that’s something that shouldn’t be discounted.

10. Miss U Much (198,000 0.1)- It’s not really better than most of the other Friday shows that have aired this year but it’s also not really worse either. I suppose the thing it may have going for it is that the Friday shows (other than Stevie TV) never really experienced a major drop after the first episode and if that happens then it won’t separate itself from the Friday crop in a bad way.
