10 Ratings Blurbs: 11/29/17 Edition

I think there will only be another two weeks of these blurbs posts. I'll continue to post the lists that go underneath, but you will see the number of shows on it drying up quickly.

1. Dancing with the Stars (9.202 million 1.3)- ABC has been so thrilled about the fall performance of freshman drama The Good Doctor that I honestly think they don’t care that this show has hovered in the low 1’s for much of the season. They have already announced that next season will only feature athletes as contestants. Don’t be surprised if you hear rumors in late February that they are targeting breakout stars from the Winter Olympics.

2. Chicago Med (6.192 million 1.3)- It’s a little uncommon to see cable networks premiering new seasons this late in the year, but it happens. It is ridiculously rare to see a broadcast network premiering a new season of a show at a time of year where they are shutting down their fall premieres for the holidays. Any other year, this looks downright strange. This year, I believe NBC is only doing it because they have the Winter Olympics and once they get beyond these next 10-12 weeks of uneven scheduling, this show should have enough unaired episodes to make a long run in the spring without needing to take a lot of breaks.

3. The Challenge XXX: Dirty 30 (802,000 0.5)- Another successful season in the books. MTV will push on and get ready for what they hope is an extremely promising 2018.

4. Arrow (Thursday: 1.094 million 0.3; Monday 2.501 million 0.9)- The Thursday episode is so low because of the odd decision to air a new episode on Thanksgiving. In previous years, only CBS has aired new episodes on Thanksgiving and they always designate the episodes as specials so their numbers can’t count against their season averages. This is the first year The CW has aired new episodes on Thanksgiving and they did not designate those episodes of Arrow and Supernatural as specials. The Monday numbers are high because of the DC crossover.

5. Teen Mom OG (1.319 million 0.7)- Like Teen Mom 2, these aren’t bad numbers. They may decline a little, but I expect them to hold steady for most of the season.

6. Love & Hip Hop (1.806 million 1.0)- The last couple of episodes have fallen below 2 million viewers, but it is still a good performer on Monday nights. December can be tricky. Either former viewers will trickle back as other shows wrap up or go on break, or people will find stuff to do and the numbers will go down. Hard to predict situations like that.

7. Floribama Shore (Premiere: 846,000 0.5; Episode 2: 794,000 0.4)- I saw the super thirsty press release MTV put out about these ratings and…..spin is a real thing. And viewers clearly want the real thing too which is why they are bringing back the original Jersey Shore (seems to be a lot of Jersey Shore nostalgia going around these days).

8. The Voice (Tuesday 11/21: 9.360 million 1.7; Monday 11/27: 9.603 million 1.9)- The numbers are okay, but maybe not where NBC wishes they were. They continue to see mixed results from their offerings after both episodes, but this show still isn’t in a place where it can’t help other shows.

9. The Challenge: Champs vs Stars (666,000 0.4)- This, much like the Champs vs Pros edition earlier this year, is not going to be a long season. This is basically here to fill the dead space between now and the end of the year. If the numbers stay close to here, it will have done its job.

10. Little Women: Atlanta (481,000 0.1)- This got a little lost airing the night before Thanksgiving, but Lifetime isn’t worried yet. They just announced their premiere date for the new season of this show and added another spinoff to the franchise (not a main city spinoff, just another Terra spinoff).
