10 Ratings Blurbs: 11/7/17 Edition

Still not quite 100%, but I'm back enough to at least be able to put a list together.

1. Love & Hip Hop (1.984 million 1.1)- VH1 has managed to keep some version of this show on nearly every week of the year. By adding a fourth main installment to the franchise next year, they are committed to doubling down on that proposition. Keep in mind that this show is the first reality show on the network to make it to eight seasons. I’m not saying that this is going to be the last season, but they have ended more successful shows far sooner. I would just say to keep an eye on these numbers and then commit them to memory when the Miami version rolls around in a couple of months.

2. The Voice (9.627 million 2.0)- NBC only aired one episode of The Voice last week because they were smartly trying to avoid the final two games of the World Series. These numbers are from last night. It’s a decent showing and the show is doing its job, but as with most years, they are getting mixed results from the shows placed behind it to benefit from these numbers.

3. Supernatural (1.824 million 0.6)- This is quietly putting together a solid start to the season. The network took a huge gamble on not using a DC show to anchor the 8pm Thursday hour, (especially when they have plans to roll out yet another addition to the franchise) but it’s paying off. This show has a ridiculously loyal fan base, and when you have a show this old on a network with so few viewers, it’s not hard to see a scenario where this show improves its position on the network because ratings are down across the board and these numbers have practically held since the beginning of the year.

4. Married to Medicine (1.486 million 0.6)- This is a good start, but we should also keep in mind that these numbers are not going to stay here. I would not be surprised if these numbers drop by 50% when the show moves to Fridays later this week. As long as the show can match last season’s Friday numbers, (over 700k with a 0.3-0.4 demo) it shouldn’t be in any danger.

5. Chicago Fire (5.878 million 1.0)- We have reached the end of the fall run with this show (this had a short run because NBC will run football on Thursday nights over the next two months). It has been a tough run this season. It lost its cushy timeslot on Tuesday nights and it is the lone drama on a comedy night lineup for NBC. The landscape will only get rougher as the show will spend much of the second half being plagued by hiatuses.

6. Hell’s Kitchen (3.096 million 0.8)- This is my obligatory ‘What would FOX do without Gordon Ramsay shows?’ PSA. These are really good Friday numbers and it is not far off from their other shows that either aren’t helped by football or aren’t named Empire.

7. Keeping Up with the Kardashians (1.153 million 0.6)- This had a weird, unexplained decline a couple weeks ago. The show is now back in familiar territory. That’s good because the network is still determined to tether themselves financially to this show and this family. To be fair, they honestly don’t have a choice. They still haven’t found another show outside of this franchise that can match or surpass the ratings of this show.

8. Don’t Be Tardy (775,000 0.3)- This had a little bit of a shaky start, but the show has managed to get on solid footing before the arrival of Married to Medicine. Bravo is probably looking forward to putting together a strong Friday night lineup with no direct competition to their shows.

9. Scared Famous (1.012 million 0.6)- The one thing that this show has going for it is that its demo skew is decent compared to its total viewers (actually, the demo numbers mirror that of Teen Mom). In my opinion, I do think these numbers are low for a 9pm Monday show, and they appear to be worried about continuing their cable reality dominance on the night (VH1 has already moved Martha & Snoop to Wednesdays). Right now, I will just say that the show won’t get pulled, but its chances for renewal are disappearing fast.

10. Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars (495,000 0.2)- We’re at the point in this show’s life that unless the producers go all out with trying to put together a blockbuster cast, then the best days are behind the show. It is a stable performer on Fridays, but it does get lost in the shuffle of kids shows, news and sports. That position will at least guarantee that the show lives for the foreseeable future.
