It's a CW heavy list this week with the biggest ratings surprise of this early season included.
1. The Flash (2.844 million 1.1)- These numbers are up a little from the spring, but this show is also not immune to the ratings declines seen by most veteran shows. The numbers will go down, but it appears that unless the network has a breakout freshman waiting in the wings, there probably won’t be any competition for the show’s top spot.
2. Fear the Walking Dead (2.230 million 0.8)- This is that familiar time of year where most people are only looking forward to next week and because of that, the numbers appear to be wildly underwhelming. I’ll say it again. These are good numbers for AMC and that’s why the network continues to stand by this show.
3. Riverdale (2.342 million 0.8)- These numbers are not only the surprise of The CW, they are the surprise premiere numbers for the entire broadcast TV landscape. Very few shows manage to double where it left off. Even fewer shows manage to do it when there was no trend pointing toward this sort of thing happening. The CW is thrilled that their gamble worked, but sadly, the unexpected gift did nothing to get their Dynasty reboot off to a good start.
4. The Challenge XXX: Dirty 30 (814,000 0.5)- This isn’t really a post about the ratings. The numbers are fine. This is more to make a note that MTV has already announced the theme and cast for the new season plus the arrival of another Champs vs. Athletes season as soon as this current season ends.
5. Supernatural (2.100 million 0.7)- The old show continues to roll on. As I mentioned above, the numbers will dip, but we have more than enough history on this show to prove that the numbers shouldn’t fall that much because the fans of the show are tremendously loyal.
6. Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party (1.348 million 0.7)- This is down from last season’s premiere, but it is higher than every episode from the back half of the season. If the show holds with an untested rookie lead-in next week, the show will be in a pretty good position going forward.
7. Arrow (1.522 million 0.6)- This show is in an odd position because it lost its 8pm spot to fellow DC show, Riverdale. Right now, it appears that The CW made the right decision in swapping the two shows. The network has become predictable over the past few years, so common knowledge would indicate that the show should be safe, no matter what. We won’t know that for sure until after the New Year.
8. Supergirl (1.755 million 0.5)- I’m putting this back on the list because I’ve had a whole week to see how the other CW shows came in. Since these numbers pretty much held from last week, (same demo, but down around 112k viewers) I have to say that the numbers are a little troubling, but because the show has begun season 3 and airs on The CW, there’s virtually no chance that it is in any kind of danger this season.
9. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (1.711 million 0.6)- These aren’t terrible numbers, but The CW has a seriously deep bench with yet another DC show on the horizon this season. When they do their midseason shuffle, this show will be the first in line to get moved. Their biggest problem will be trying to find a place to move it to.
10. Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars (408,000 0.1)- These are pretty low return numbers for this show. However, the numbers are better than what WE has gone with for the last several weeks on Friday nights. The show may not rebound because Bravo is prepping to contend on the night and as we get closer to the end of the year, TV viewing will drop as more networks opt for filling the space with old movies and holiday specials.
