10 Ratings Blurbs: 10/10/17 Edition

The big premiere wave is almost complete. This week, The CW rolls out their lineup.

1. Scandal (5.518 million 1.4)- These numbers are around where last season ended and going by the second week drop of How to Get Away with Murder, there may be some series lows ahead to plague the final season of this show. Whatever happens, Fans shouldn’t have to worry about ABC playing schedule tag here. The show is going to stay and play out the string until the very end.

2. Real Housewives of New Jersey (1.436 million 0.5)- Real Housewives shows are an odd breed compared to most reality shows. They tend to have very long seasons and mostly stable ratings, though some tend to grow their numbers over the course of the season. It’s way too early to say if that will happen here, but this isn’t a bad start. There’s some room to grow here and put up some nice numbers for a night without any real blockbuster competition across the TV landscape.

3. Supergirl (1.867 million 0.5)- These numbers don’t look all too promising, but because The CW runs on such small ratings margins, it will be important to monitor where the rest of the lineup comes in and where all these shows will eventually settle.

4. Teen Mum (490,000 0.3)- Early in the summer, MTV ran a 3 episode trial. Because this is a UK show and an 11pm show, their ratings risk for this season is low. I can’t imagine they are pleased with the retention from Teen Mom, but they have endured more painful experiments in the past.

5. Hip Hop Squares (9:00 1.233 million 0.6; Finale: 1.011 million 0.5)- VH1 burned through a ton of episodes in just a few weeks, but it is my understanding that they still have a lot of leftover episodes from the large order they made a few months ago. It will be back, but unless they need another short bridge, they may want to wait to see if it can be propped up by a stronger 8pm show.

6. The Challenge XXX: Dirty 30 (910,000 0.6)- These are pretty good numbers for a show that has seen its numbers go all over the place this season. There is still quite a ways to go before the end of the season, so if this isn’t a fluke, there’s an opportunity to finish the season on a high note.

7. Star (4.560 million 1.4)- The major news coming out of this show this week is that FOX ordered five extra episodes. The move only brings the show to 18 episodes for the season (same as Empire), but what is baffling is that FOX gave this show the freshman treatment (by only ordering 13 episodes) knowing that the ratings would at least be a little better than last season because they put it behind Empire this season. Also, they don’t have much going for them and the numbers are acceptable.

8. Don’t Be Tardy (Premiere: 689,000 0.2; Episode 2: 740,000 0.2)- I’m not super concerned with these numbers. The demos are a little low, but the total viewers are around last season’s numbers. Bravo is trying to prep Friday nights for the return of Married to Medicine and with numbers like these, I’m beginning to wonder if they are seeing that Friday nights can be viable for them with more than a few of their veteran shows.

9. Once Upon a Time (3.257 million 0.7)- A new night (Fridays) plus a major cast shakeup doesn’t usually bode well for a veteran show like this one. The numbers and odds may not be in this show’s favor. What could save it is the lowered ratings expectations for the new night plus drama devastation elsewhere. The only thing the show would have to do is not lose too many more viewers from here. It’s a tough ask, but not impossible and that’s why it will probably spend most of the season as a bubble show.

10. Little Women Dallas (596,000 0.2)- These days, I don’t find myself being all that shocked with ratings. This one here is a genuine shocker. The show is the newest piece of the main franchise and it has been the lowest rated piece, but these numbers are pretty low for a network that does like to give shows a chance to find their way. The numbers don’t need to make a significant jump, but they do need to increase because going any lower would put it in the danger zone.
