10 Ratings Blurbs: 6/6/17 Edition

The summer season is here and I may have to take a few weeks off. It will depend on how slow things get in the TV world.

1. America’s Got Talent (12.320 million 2.7)- I’m always fascinated with how this show, more than any other reality show on TV, can take an entire year off and return to dominate a typically dead period in broadcast television. You really have to appreciate how this show can stay on the air this long and NBC hasn’t tried to ruin it by trying to double up on seasons to get it somewhere on the in-season schedule.

2. Fear the Walking Dead (Premiere: 3.109 million 1.2; Episode 2: 2.698 million 1.0)- These numbers are definitely lower than last season’s opener, but the show is still in a good position on AMC. I’m pretty sure it won’t hold these numbers, but they would have to drop a long way before I see the show being in any real danger.

3. Daytime Divas (1.277 million 0.5)- This was a show where I had no idea what to expect with the numbers, but it would have taken either a ridiculously high number or a ridiculously low number to shock me. That means I’m not incredibly shocked by these numbers. These numbers are only slightly better than The Breaks premiere back in February. I did not think that The Breaks had numbers that justified keeping it where it was (and of course, we know that The Breaks was renewed, but the show is moving to BET). This could be shaping up to mirror the fates of Hit the Floor and The Breaks where these numbers may justify giving it another chance, just not on the VH1 Monday night schedule.

4. MasterChef (3.666 million 1.1)- FOX and ABC love loading up on a bunch of reality shows to float them through the summer (NBC and CBS go heavy on reality shows too, but they rely on fewer shows over multiple nights). They have their staples, like this one, and typically, all that is required from them are ratings stability so they can focus on promoting their new fall shows to people who have proven that they won’t change the channel.

5. Nashville (780,000 0.2)- This is down somewhat from the midseason finale a few months ago, but it isn’t a super low number either. The show picked up a little momentum towards the end of the first half of the season and with summer Thursdays being an extremely slow night, it can replicate that momentum again.

6. The Americans (767,000 0.2)- Fans are going to have to wait a year, but at least they will go into it being sure that next season is the final season. This has never been a top tier show for FX, but it attracts awards consideration and cable networks like to reward that sort of thing. They also like to reward long-running shows with proper sendoffs.

7. Little Women: Atlanta (845,000 0.3)- My position over the past several weeks with the shows in this franchise remain unchanged. I still have to believe that this show will return for a new season.

8. Return to Amish (1.443 million 0.4)- This managed to pull in some respectable numbers for the finale, but I’m not sure the situation here is all that clear. As far as ratings go, the show has done well enough to earn another season. I’m just not sure if TLC wants it and it may be a long wait before anyone can figure it out.

9. Gotham (Finale Hour 1: 3.171 million 1.0; Finale Hour 2: 3.029 million 0.9)- By now, we all know that this show is moving to Thursday nights and we probably shouldn’t expect better numbers than this. Unfortunately, the situation at FOX looks so dire that this could be the #3 drama on the network next season. If that happens, that means FOX will have a horrific season.

10. The Originals (1.024 million 0.4)- This show is quietly chugging along on Fridays and it looks like the numbers saw a little bit of a bump now that the summer season is underway.
