10 Ratings Blurbs: 2/2/16 Edition

The two weeks that make up late January and early February are a little odd. You get a few premieres, even fewer finales and a ton of specials. I didn't have to scrape together too many shows to make up this week's list, but the next two might have a recycled feel to them.

1. Chicago Med (7.577 million 1.7)- It should be a surprise to no one that NBC renewed this show. The ratings are decent and the renewal means it will join the other two Chicago shows next year. The only thing in question will be how NBC will schedule all three shows.

2. MasterChef Junior (4.751 million 1.3)- This show will return. These numbers are acceptable for FOX on Fridays. My hope is that they continue to use this show for one stable timeslot in the fall.

3. Little Women: LA (1.258 million 0.5)- This is another show I did some ratings research on last year and these numbers are bit low for a premiere but they are in the normal ratings range for this show. In the grand scheme of things, it means that this is also one of the more successful shows on Lifetime. If the ratings remain stable all season, the show will be just fine.

4. The Vampire Diaries (1.230 million 0.5)- These numbers mirror the numbers this show was getting before the break on Thursdays. For perhaps this one week, there appears to be a little hope for viability beyond this season. I think there’s a chance only because The Originals needs a fourth season for syndication purposes, it is not smart to launch a new show on Fridays and there is a partially open Friday slot in the fall with the end of America’s Next Top Model. This show doesn’t need a full season if The CW doesn’t want one.

5. Hit the Floor (1.352 million 0.7)- These numbers have now slipped below the level that VH1 has shown they are comfortable with tolerating from shows on Mondays (There is no established line but 1.5-1.7 million seems to be the mark). The lower numbers could be because viewers aren’t used to watching a 10pm show or it could be because the long hiatus gave fans ample time to find new shows to watch. It is certainly a worrisome trend, so the numbers are going to have to start going up again if there is any chance that the show can survive.

6. Little Women: Atlanta (1.303 million 0.6)-This is a promising start for a new spinoff show. Going forward, the expectation will be to try not to lose too many viewers.

7. Mob Wives: The Last Stand (1.122 million 0.6)- This may be filler on the list this week, but only because the show appears to be doing fine after 4 episodes. The numbers have dipped a little since the premiere, but this is still normal territory for the show.

8. The Originals (950,000 0.4)- The good news here is that The CW has had worse performers on Fridays. It will need to keep this up to make the reasoning for renewing this show (and they will have to renew this show for at least one more season) sound sensible.

9. Grimm (3.810 million 0.8)- This is quite low for a show returning from the winter break. I’m not going to jump to any conclusions here because I do want to see a few more weeks of numbers for this show, but there may be a growing case that this could be the final season of the show.

10. Tamar & Vince (483,000 0.2)- This is much lower than most episodes this season, but it still looks like a bit of a disappointing season overall to me. The ratings are lower than last season and it’s magnified because Growing Up Hip Hop has done slightly better than this show since it premiered last month. I don’t think I have a theory for the lower ratings this season.
