10 Ratings Blurbs: 2/9/16 Edition

Next week, I can inject some new blood into this post. Unfortunately, that probably means another picture featuring The Walking Dead.

1. Super Bowl 50 (111.864 million)- So no records were broken here, but it will still be the highest rated program of the year. I guess that counts for something because the game was awful (I’m a person who can appreciate a strong defensive game, but that is nullified when both offenses don’t show up), the commercials were forgettable and I never watch halftime or the anthem.

2. The Haves and The Have Nots (2.904 million 0.7)- Strangely, the total viewers have remained relatively close, but the demo has slipped since that first episode. The ratings are still very good for the network.

3. Project Runway Junior (1.265 million 0.4)-This turned out to be a very stable first season for the show. I think it has a good chance to return. Maybe Lifetime would like to ideally have this show skew a little younger than it did, but that’s an internal mystery they have to deal with.

4. The Flash (3.655 million 1.4)- There’s really nothing to see here. Ratings are still good and there hasn’t been any movement so far since returning from winter break.

5. 2 Broke Girls (6.342 million 1.6)- Just as quickly as it started, it looks like the Wednesday experiment is over. CBS canceled Angel from Hell yesterday and that means this show will return to Thursday nights next week. Hopefully these ratings go with it and people aren’t confused by the change.

6. Supergirl (7.919 million 1.8)- So last week, an announcement came that this would do a mini crossover with The Flash (my understanding is that characters from The Flash will appear on this show but not vice versa). I’m not sure how that will work, but it could be worth a shot.

7. Pretty Little Liars (1.391 million 0.6)- I don’t know what happened to cause this show to just collapse. The numbers from the previous episode was lower than the premiere, but still in normal range for the show. Who knows? Perhaps fans just needed 3 episodes to decide if they wanted to stick with the show this season. There is always the possibility that the numbers could rebound tonight.

8. Stevie J & Joseline Go Hollywood (2.110 million 1.1)- I’m not 100% sure what to make of this show. On the surface, the ratings are definitely good. I’m not sure if VH1 thinks these numbers are what they were expecting. Obviously the spinoff model has changed (typically, people with reality spinoffs leave the main show unless the main show was a family-based show) and these two won’t be leaving Love & Hip Hop Atlanta. I’m guessing the message here is that this show isn’t as big of a gamble as VH1 may want other people to think and that means that they can do anything they want with it, regardless of ratings.

9. Marvel’s Agent Carter (2.774 million 0.8)- Usually this post comes together because I pick out shows that have some kind of news surrounding them and I fill out the rest of the list with either ratings that stick out to be or shows that I haven’t mentioned in a couple weeks. I guess this falls under that last reason because I have nothing to say about this show right now.

10. Preachers of Atlanta (265,000 0.1)- This is a disaster and Oxygen made a huge mistake by botching this franchise. If you’ve forgotten the narrative, I’ll refresh it for you. Preachers of LA came in season 1 as one of the most successful launches Oxygen has ever had. Those season 1 ratings were actually in contention to surpass Bad Girls Club with a little bit of growth. Oxygen granted the show with a season 2 renewal and the option to order 4 spinoff shows. Season 2 came along and the ratings tumbled by about 50%, but Oxygen made the puzzling decision to order Preachers of Detroit to series without renewing Preachers of LA for a third season. Preachers of Detroit came along and its ratings weren’t impressive, but I thought they were serviceable for its Friday timeslot (If I recall, the premiere of that show was around 410,000 viewers and it lost about 100k of that over the rest of the season). Since then, Oxygen’s already dismal ratings have cratered even further, they have only renewed 2 shows (Bad Girls Club and The Prancing Elites Project) in the last 2 years and it seems like every new show gets worse ratings than the last few shows that aired before it. I don’t have high hopes for the show. These ratings are terrible.
