10 Ratings Blurbs: 10/27/15 Edition

This week is like a meh week. Couple of bright spots, but mostly shows with unimpressive but not terrible ratings.

1. Being Mary Jane (Premiere: 2.202 million 0.9; Episode 2: 2.243 million 1.0)- It’s no secret that BET has struggled with their shows this year. I think that these are decent premiere numbers and nothing to be ashamed of but I’m also aware that BET shows have that nasty little habit where their premieres tend to be the highest rated episodes of the season. A ratings decline would still put the show in decent shape but the numbers will appear to be a little disappointing just going by the eye test. Hopefully this show breaks the cycle and fights to remain stable but I doubt it.

2. Supergirl (12.96 million 3.1)- These numbers are very good (maybe not good enough given the promotion but still good) but I’m not buying it. This will not have the help from The Big Bang Theory next week. Also, recent shows of the genre have had a habit of starting strong and fading down the stretch (but not enough to get canceled). I believe that this show might have been better suited on The CW even though it would have never seen numbers like these on that network.

3. Project Runway (2.516 million 0.8)- This is quietly putting together one of the strongest seasons that this show has seen in quite a while. The show still skews pretty old for a reality show but those total viewers are highly impressive. Lifetime has to be pleased that the show is experiencing a bit of a resurrection at a time where they will have to reevaluate the future of this show (Next season is the last season of that massive multi-season renewal deal Lifetime gave to this show back in 2008).

4. Real Housewives of New Jersey: Teresa Checks In (1.421 million 0.6)- I don’t know what Bravo was expecting from this special but the numbers weren’t bad. The actual season for Real Housewives of New Jersey is still a long way off and this was a decent filler to keep Sundays from being vacant for a month.

5. Black Ink Crew: Chicago (1.800 million 1.0)- These numbers are far from terrible for a series premiere but this lost almost 900,000 viewers and 0.4 in the demo from its Love & Hip Hop Hollywood lead-in. I’ve expressed my opinion on Chicago reality shows often (My issue is that they are fake because the people are so desperate to be on TV and know that the chance to get a show based in Chicago is rare). If there would be a reality show to break the one-and-done streak then the odds of it being this show are currently in its favor. I’m not sold yet. I will need to see some more numbers and they better not fall much from here.

6. Switched at Birth (836,000 0.4)- This is the time of year where ABC Family (Soon to be Freeform…not fond of that new name at all) shuts down all of their shows for the year and goes into holiday mode. This has been a rocky season for the show but the network has had a devastating year with their new dramas and reality shows. This show hasn’t done that bad in the grand scheme of things and that’s why it will return next year.

7. LA Hair (649,000 0.3)- The numbers aren’t as high as they were at the beginning of the season but they also appear to be coming off of its lows too. I don’t think you can expect more than that when dealing with a show like this.

8. Don’t Be Tardy (782,000 0.3)- The numbers have dipped a little bit since moving to Thursdays but these aren’t terrible ratings. It’s about the best that Bravo can expect for this night. Maybe this gets some Sunday time again when RHOA returns in a couple of weeks but who knows.

9. America’s Next Top Model (727,000 0.3)- It’s an odd move for a show to come off a two week break with a clip show but at this point, nobody cares. It has been confirmed that this will be the final season of the show and the series finale is just about a month away.

10. Bad Girls Club: Back for More (521,000 0.3)- The ratings for this season have been low. They have been so low that this will be the lowest rated season of the show since the very first season because the reunion ratings will not help this show make up the ground to surpass the ratings for season 2. The season average for this show (now at 618,000 viewers) is actually in striking distance of falling below season 1 to be honest, but I don’t believe the multi-part reunion show will perform poorly enough to drag the average below season 1’s average of 588,000 viewers.
