10 Ratings Blurbs: 10/20/15 Edition

I didn't expect to use 3 spots for VH1 shows but I had the free space and the opportunity was there so I took it.

1. Black Ink Crew (2.530 million 1.3)- This is the first reunion airing ever for this show and the move paid off with season high (including the first half) numbers and the second highest rated episode ever for the show. I believe the show will be back for a fourth season but I have no idea how the spinoff might do next week.

2. Chicago Fire (7.37 million 1.8)- The Chicago shows to NBC are basically like the Shonda shows to ABC. Their numbers don’t light the world on fire but they are good enough to depend on. I expect the same to take place here even if the numbers decline a little bit as the season wears on.

3. Empire (12.22 million 4.7)- Some people out there are taking the sky is falling approach to this show. I don’t get it because it is still the highest rated broadcast show on TV. What needs to be taken into consideration is that season 1 was such anomaly that we still have no idea what constitutes as average numbers for this show. Hopefully, we will figure that out in a few more weeks.

4. How to Get Away with Murder (6.81 million 2.0)- I’ll start this off by saying that most shows are down from last season and there are only a handful of shows that still have impressive ratings. This show doesn’t have impressive ratings but they aren’t in dumpster fire territory either. I think even with a little more of a ratings dip, the show will continue to stay safe only because ABC still has a lot of returning, lower-rated dramas on the bench.

5. Once Upon a Time (4.92 million 1.6)- The numbers appear to have fallen off so far this season. They aren’t worrisome in the sense that it’s in danger of being canceled but there may be a cause for concern when we’re all aware that the first half of the season is usually the highest rated half.

6. Real Housewives of Orange County (2.039 million 0.9)- I had no idea that last week was the final but I guess that helps because I wouldn't have had room for the show on the list anyway. The numbers don’t change much from week to week because the fans are so loyal to this show. There’s nothing wrong with that but only because the numbers are still good.

7. Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood (2.753 million 1.4)- Some people may be surprised to learn that this is not a series high for the show. We know about the massive highs of Atlanta and New York has had its good days as well. Hollywood still hasn’t gotten there quite yet but it is certainly trying.

8. Ridiculousness (602,000 0.3)- There was no room to talk about this last week. The numbers weren’t impressive then and they aren’t impressive now. While these numbers are soft, MTV has bigger problems to deal with.

9. Scream Queens (2.39 million 1.0)- These numbers are still dropping and yet there’s no concern that this show will disappear from the schedule anytime soon. Much like last season, the networks are playing one giant game of chicken because none of them want to be the network to have the first cancellation. FOX is definitely a contender in that race but this show isn’t the candidate to be the first to go.

10. Love & Hip Hop: Out in Hip Hop (144,000 0.1)- Please note that these numbers are for the original airing which inexplicably aired at 7am yesterday morning. I have no idea what the point of that was since it was already slated to air at 11pm and wouldn’t have counted towards VH1’s primetime average anyway. If you’re curious, the 11pm airing got a much more respectable 1.508 million viewers (0.7 demo).
