10 Ratings Blurbs: 11/3/15 Edition

This wasn't a very inspiring week of ratings. There will be some finales coming in the next few weeks and the broadcast shows will start rolling into their holiday hiatuses in a few weeks too.

1. The Walking Dead (13.339 million 6.8)- This was renewed for a seventh season and nobody is surprised. It is still the highest rated scripted show on TV and AMC will ride this train for a long as they can.

2. Real Housewives of Orange County (1.864 million 0.7)- This show may not be the gold standard for Real Housewives shows but it has a very important place because it is the show that started everything. After 10 seasons, the numbers are still quite strong and with all the other franchise cities (including Atlanta) facing some kind of turmoil or cast shakeup, it’s nice to have a show that can deliver stability to what can often be an unstable realm of television.

3. The Voice (Tuesday: 10.23 million 2.6; Monday: 12.06 million 3.3)- I’m still wondering a little why the Tuesday numbers are lower than the Monday numbers. I don’t get it because I know the gap wasn’t because of the live shows. Live shows bring a new wave of ratings declines with this show and if I’m not mistaken, we haven’t gotten to those quite yet (I can’t be sure, I don’t watch the show and I only watch NBC for football).

4. Vanderpump Rules (1.235 million 0.6)- Bravo is probably covering their eyes after seeing the ratings from their shows last night. This did well but the same can’t be said about the rest of the lineup. I’m not worried about this show and the people at Bravo have bigger issues to worry about if they want to attempt to salvage Monday nights for the rest of the fall.

5. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.- Tuesdays are still a mess for ABC and still this show and its disappointing ratings are still not the worst option for ABC (that 10pm hour is a black hole of death). This show will continue to skate along and it will have to keep skating along because that way it won’t look too shocking when ABC renews this show for season 4.

6. Supernatural (2.04 million 0.8)- This only gets a spot on the list because this had a weird 0.2 demo spike last week (it was a 0.3 point increase in the preliminaries but the Bulls game here last week was responsible for some of the increase). I guess that means the 0.6 demo from a couple weeks ago was a strange occurrence and nothing to be alarmed about just yet.

7. Nashville (4.18 million 1.1)- ABC is not being slick by deciding to put this show on hiatus for most of November sweeps. These ratings aren’t great but they know this and at least they will see better numbers for the CMA Awards tomorrow.

8. Kendra on Top (635,000 0.3)- By now, we all know the narrative of this season. The ratings are way down from last season but last season was also fueled by a tabloid scandal that artificially boosted the ratings. I don’t think these are terrible numbers. The show airs on a Friday and these numbers tell me that there is some interest in this show. I think it deserves another shot if it stays on Fridays.

9. Grimm (4.04 million 1.1)- I’m not wowed by these numbers but I don’t think anyone is. This show is slotted after two terribly performing comedies (one is a dead show walking and the other one should be dead but canceling it would mean that NBC would have no comedies with more than 1 season under its belt). This show has gotten to the point where basically syndication dollars and scheduling needs (aka non rerun hole fillers) will determine how long the show keeps going.

10. LA Hair (560,000 0.2)- I wouldn’t have put this show on the list last week if I had known that the finale was going to air on Thursday. Just another example of how I don’t actually watch these shows. I am surprised how much this is down from last week (lost about 89k viewers and 0.1 in the demo). Maybe all the exciting stuff happened the week before and the finale was just a filler to wrap things up for the season. I know the show is down a bit from last season but personally I don’t see why it should be canceled just yet. WE is going through a period where they want to premiere more shows. They need to see how those rookies perform before shoving out the vets because they aren’t on par with Braxton Family Values and Marriage Boot Camp.
