10 Ratings Blurbs: 3/24/15 Edition

Thankfully the list isn't full of mostly low-rated shows like last week.

1. Empire (8pm: 15.82 million 6.1; Finale: 17.62 million 6.9)- This show has been astounding people with its ratings all season and the finale is no different. You just don’t see an hourly jump like this. Since we all know the show will be returning, the biggest remaining questions will be when and for how many episodes. Those questions should be answered in the next couple of months.

2. Teen Mom (1.952 million 1.2)- I think I’ll form a opinion about these numbers in a few weeks. I really don’t like trying to talk about MTV ratings when just about all of their shows see a sharp second week ratings declines. These numbers are decent. If they were to fall a little but next week, the show would still be the highest rated show currently airing on the network.

3. The Flash (3.69 million 1.3)- Yes these numbers are lower than they were from a month ago but at this point in the season where broadcast network numbers are sorry across the board, The CW is happy just to have a show still pulling a 1.0 demo at the end of March.

4. Single Ladies (BET Airing: 774,000 0.3)- I can’t put very much stock in these numbers because these are from BET and not Centric. Also, these numbers are certainly higher than whatever the show got on Centric but since this is now their show (Centric), it will be up to them to decide which numbers (ratings and money) make the most sense for them to keep the show going. Unfortunately for me, I won’t have any way of trying to figure that out.

5. 2 Broke Girls (7.26 million 1.9)- To no one’s surprise, CBS renewed this show last week. It was a little bit of a surprise that they only renewed their veteran comedies but that’s just because CBS has a pattern of renewing everything except their bubble shows in March and there’s a lot more interest in the fates of their veteran dramas.

6. Grimm (4.78 million 1.1)- These really aren’t the best numbers for the show but at this point in the season NBC doesn’t really care. The show is already coming back for another season and this is garbage time on the calendar anyway. They still have a mountain of mess to agonize over before feeling bad about these numbers.

7. Supernatural (1.73 million 0.6)- For a new night and time after a pretty lengthy hiatus, this isn’t a bad return for the show. The CW’s spring ratings have also begun suffering their yearly declines. Numbers like these may be the norm for the remainder of the season.

8. Walk of Shame Shuttle (266,000 0.2)- These numbers are very similar to Hindsight but there are three major red flags that I am getting for this show. The first is that this show got these numbers behind Mob Wives and it will have a new, lower-rated lead-in beginning tomorrow. The second red flag is that this is a premiere and shows rarely go up from the premiere. The third is that this is a reality show and these numbers are already bad. This is a bad start for the show and all signs are pointing towards the numbers getting potentially worse from here.

9. Glee (8pm: 2.69 million 0.8; Series Finale: 2.54 million 0.7)- For every Empire, there’s a show like Glee lurking in the shadows. This is a show that quite honestly should have ended 2 years ago but FOX was dumb and committed themselves to 2 seasons when they shouldn’t have. Instead, they let the show limp to the finish line and you get to look at sad numbers like these.

10. Barely Famous (122,000 0.1)- It is not a good thing when numbers like these make VH1 look halfway smart for renewing Hindsight. I am not sure why VH1 continues to believe the myth that people are actually interested in the shows that don’t air on Mondays. I am aware the shows are designed to appeal to two slightly different audiences (Basically divided by race because all of their shows target young women) but the strategy of giving people “cute”, “fun” and “quirky” shows is a strategy that hasn’t worked well for years.
