10 Ratings Blurbs: 6/10/14 Edition

I tried to be mindful of the things I said about quite a few of these shows since I'm not doing a predictions post this month.

1. Catfish: The TV Show (1.562 million 0.9)- For now this show has to represent being MTV’s highest rated show. It says something about your network when the top show is only pulling 1.5-1.7 million viewers. The network has seen better days than this but that's just the way things are now. Teen Wolf will come back to correct that in a couple of weeks but not by much. All it means is this show doesn’t have too much to worry about.

2. Marrying The Game (939,000 0.5)- This show is proving to be highly resilient. This arguably had the worst draw of the 3 Wednesday shows and it is honestly holding its own. Still I’m not convinced that it is doing enough to sway me from this being a burnoff season. It is going to have the numbers to get renewed but this could be one of those shows (and VH1 always has 1 or 2 of them every year) that has the numbers to get renewed but outside factors can push it into cancellation.

3. The Challenge: Free Agents (1.056 million 0.6)- This show is just there. It isn’t doing anything impressive this season but it isn’t doing terribly either. At this point I guess that’s all MTV can ask for.

4. Real Housewives of Atlanta: Kandi’s Wedding (2.463 million 1.0)- It’s impressive that this show managed to maintain last week’s numbers and I am sure Bravo is pleased about this as well. There are still 4 weeks to go before this is over but so far it is looking like a success and it is keeping the network from having this period of dead air between the end of RHOA and the beginning of RHONJ.

5. Veep (945,000 0.5)- HBO really needs to get their comedy situation together. This show stayed pretty much in last season’s range even with a lot more help and the show didn’t do much with it. Yes it’s coming back next season but with HBO so intent on sending off True Blood (and then Boardwalk Empire) their focus for 2015 will likely be trying to work on finding some suitable drama replacements first.

6. Hollywood Exes (905,000 0.4)- I’m not surprised that this show is actually doing better than last season. There are still some fluctuations with the weekly numbers but they are not nearly as extreme as the first 2 seasons have been and that is what is keeping the average (Currently at 1.047 million after 5 episodes) from being too deceptive (The average is still a little inflated but not nearly as much as the first 2 seasons). While I thought all 3 Wednesday night shows were bubble shows beginning the season, I’m starting to believe that this show is creeping off the bubble and inching towards renewal and will probably be the easiest call of the 3 to make.

7. Keeping Up with the Kardashians (2.420 million 1.0)- At this point E! is going to have to accept that everyone except the fans of this show are over it no matter how many stunts are pulled and they are going to need to put serious effort into finding some replacements people actually want to watch so that they are stuck with this show being the highest rated one by a mile. Total Divas is certainly a step in the right direction but if they keep doing what they have been doing, this show will continue to be around because of its stagnant but steady ratings and people will continue to think of them as the Kardashian/fauxlebrity network and avoid it like the plague even if they put some effort into rebranding themselves.

8. Bad Girls Club: Chicago (1.366 million 0.6)- The numbers for this show are getting better and it is even creeping closer to passing the season 11 average (Season 11 set the bar really low. BTW if you ever wanted to know all things concerning Bad Girls Club ratings you might want to check out my post at Bourgy). Yes Oxygen will be happy if this surpasses season 11 and they will be happier if the show fights to get up to the 1.5 million viewer average threshold but the latter goal is still a harder one to achieve than the former and Oxygen is still looking at season 13 (rumored to be an “all-star” season) to save their network and this show.

9. La La’s Full Court Life (790,000 0.4)- Like Hollywood Exes, this show is also doing better than last season (averaging 859,000 through 5 episodes compared to 826,000 for season 4). This show has a pretty good chance of falling below that season 4 average but it would still be above the level that VH1 has shown they are comfortable with renewing (700,000 viewers is the magic number for a non-Monday renewal). I think VH1 is going to wait to see how the new shows perform in July. If a couple of them manage to be surprise hits then they may cut ties with this one and put all of their focus on creating a new block with those shows. If all of them are disastrous flops (coupled with whatever Carmelo Anthony decides to do in the offseason) then this probably gets yet another renewal to save face and maintain a block with Hollywood Exes.

10. Real Housewives of NYC (1.134 million 0.4)- I'm just filling a space here. I have nothing different to say here that I haven't said already. The numbers aren't getting any better and Bravo isn't showing their hand on this show either meaning it can still go either way (Needs to be canceled though. They spent the last 2 seasons trying to fix this show only to get worse ratings each time. I can't see what another wave of retooling can do for this show).
