10 Ratings Blurbs: 5/6/14 Edition

I was going to go with Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta being the headline picture but it is very hard to ignore the growth of Game of Thrones.

1. Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta (3.761 million 1.9)- If anyone is disappointed with this number they are crazy. Not only is this the highest rated premiere of the series, it is the highest rated premiere of the entire franchise. Now if this is the low water mark for the season then VH1 will be a very happy network and they are going to need that to happen with all of the flops due to premiere in July.

2. Bates Motel (2.299 million 0.9)- Perhaps this is a little tiny bit low for the finale but it’s not disappointing. There was a lot of competition going on and things could have been much worse.

3. The Game (2.532 million 1.2)- I think the NBA playoffs affected the numbers for the last couple of weeks but the show has put up a strong first half of the season. I’m not exactly sure when the show will return but the television landscape should be friendlier whenever that occurs.

4. Real Housewives of Atlanta (4.289 million 1.9)- These reunion numbers were good and nothing that Bravo should be completely ashamed about but I get the feeling that they sold out for the prospect of a fight bringing in even bigger numbers and that didn’t happen. That means the reunions were lower rated than quite a few in-season episodes. It is still the highest rated season of the series and of the entire franchise so it will be interesting to see how Bravo goes into next season. They could change some things or they could try to keep the formula the same because that is what has been working.

5. The Challenge: Free Agents (1.106 million 0.7)- This show is trying to inch up towards respectability. MTV knows that they will no longer be able to entice new viewers to this show so everything they do at this point is to please the fans. I’m not sure how much they are actually listening to the fans but this new twist proves that the fans really aren’t that interested.

6. Resurrection (8.16 million 2.1)- This didn’t turn out to be the megahit rookie show that ABC needed or what the first couple of weeks indicated it would be. It was a short run but the decline really wasn’t too severe. ABC will most likely give this another season because of how awful their rookie class has fared but I don’t think too many people will be surprised if next season has this show looking like how Nashville was this past year.

7. Real Housewives of NYC (1.464 million 0.6)- This show is still nowhere needs to be but it is trying to creep up a little bit. The rise may be slower than past seasons have experienced but since Bravo did their massive renewal announcement last month, they can literally wait until the last day and even some time beyond that to decide what they are going to do about this show.

8. 2 Broke Girls (6.49 million 2.0)- It is nearly a given that CBS will use the first 6 or so weeks in the fall using The Big Bang Theory to boost their Monday lineup. CBS needs it surely because they will need this show to turn in a stronger performance than this but I also think that with numbers this low, I’m not sure CBS will have a quick trigger on canceling rookies like they have in the past. The numbers have really suffered this season.

9. Game of Thrones (7.155 million 3.9)- It is very hard to ignore a show hitting series highs week after week. It is similar to the massive growth True Blood saw during season 2 but this show is much bigger than True Blood was at its prime. I know HBO now feels comfortable about putting all of their stock in this show as they begin to move away from True Blood and Boardwalk Empire. The next challenge will be trying to find 2 more shows to transition into a new big 3 for the network.

10. T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle (2.796 million 1.4)- I knew this show would have a dramatic ratings increase from last week but I was expecting more. Usually this show is a very good fit with Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta and yet this lagged behind. The Playoffs could be to blame here but this could have done a lot better.
