10 Ratings Blurbs: 5/13/14 Edition

Little early today but it works out for me because I'm not done posting at Bourgy yet for the day. Also apologies for not doing a predictions post this month. Again there were a lack of shows and I may have to reconsider some things regarding that post in the future. Either I am going to have to shift the date around or I am going to have to stop doing it completely. I may need a couple of months to consider which option I am going to go with.

1. Devious Maids (1.654 million 0.5)- I don’t think this show is progressing the way Lifetime was hoping it would be able to. Slow starts are one thing but this show is stagnant and not really making an attempt at growing the audience. Sometimes that isn’t a bad thing but it is worrisome when the core audience isn’t all that big as evidenced here.

2. Hollywood Exes (1.544 million 0.7)- In my opinion, Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta did what it was supposed to do with trying to get this block of shows sampled (that got 2.642 million for Wednesday’s episode). I don’t think this show did a good job of taking advantage of the opportunity it was given and that’s a shame because a show going into season 3 shouldn’t need help with trying to be a strong anchor. I won’t be surprised if this show loses about half of this audience tomorrow night.

3. Catfish: The TV Show (2.051 million 1.1)- Since MTV doesn’t really have anything on Wednesday nights now this is a pretty good start. I don’t know if it will hold up but if it does then it would be more than acceptable.

4. La La’s Full Court Life (1.017 million 0.4)- This is only slightly higher than the season 4 premiere so I can’t say there’s anything remarkable about that. I gave up trying to figure out why this show is on air 2 years ago. My only explanation is that it is a seat-filler so that Hollywood Exes isn’t airing by itself.

5. Two and a Half Men (8.35 million 2.1)- The future of this show has been up in the air for quite some time although we have known for a while that it will return next season. Just about all of the questions surrounding this show could be answered tomorrow and we may learn how long the next season will be and if it will be the final one.

6. Once Upon a Time (6.80 million 2.3)- Pretty decent finale considering that all of the broadcast networks have been running on fumes. Since there are no changes coming for this show next season it’s obvious that ABC doesn’t see this show as a trouble spot despite the diminished numbers.

7. Marrying The Game (1.303 million 0.7)- I am under the impression that VH1 renewed this show before all of the off-show drama started coming out and once it was out in the open they were already way too deep. I am almost convinced that this will probably be the last season of the show regardless of ratings and I think they are banking on the guaranteed sharp average drop between last season and this one being the factor they point to should anyone ask why there won’t be another season.

8. The Mindy Project (2.48 million 1.2)- I’m not really surprised that they let this show hold on to its timeslot for next season. All eyes will be on how many episodes FOX gives this show. All signs are pointing to somewhere in the area of 13-16 episodes. That could signal that FOX thinks the renewal was a mistake they can’t get away from (much like Glee). If FOX is somehow forced to order more than 16 episodes because of trouble elsewhere then it is going to be nearly impossible for them to cancel the show because then the show will be in a prime spot so that another 13-22 episode season will be needed for syndication purposes.

9. Revenge (4.87 million 1.4)- ABC is trying to convince people that there are no plans to treat next season as if it is a final season. That may very well be the case but if they are in a position where they are looking at 1.2 or lower demos by November their tune may change quickly so I wouldn’t take cancellation off of the table for next season. The only way this stays on for a 5th year is if next year’s rookie class is just as disastrous as this one and another returning show not named Scandal or Nashville falls off the rails next season.

10. Married to Medicine (1.226 million 0.5)- I had a feeling these numbers would fall without a super-sized lead-in but I think that too many RHOA boosted episodes have aired so I’m not convinced the show is in danger of getting canceled. In a way it is another Blood, Sweat and Heels but there’s also a chance this gets the Shahs of Sunset treatment and gets booted out of its cushy timeslot next season in favor of helping another rookie show find its footing.
