10 Ratings Blurbs: 5/28/14 Edition

It may be a day late but for a week like this it doesn't matter much because of how slow things are becoming.

1. Hit The Floor (2.358 million 1.1)- This is about where I expected this to come in. The NBA Playoffs may have been a factor here but if that was the case the show shouldn't have to contend with that next week.

2. Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta (3.004 million 1.6)- I do believe the playoffs hit this show. As I said above it shouldn’t be an issue for next week but if it is going to start making some gains, next week would be the time to start doing it. Otherwise it will become obvious that the show has peaked.

3. Dancing with the Stars (15.07 million 2.4)- These aren’t terrible finale numbers. If nothing else ABC learned that the cutbacks for this season were at least able to stop the bleeding for this show. Now no one knows how many seasons this show can keep going on but this show is not on ABC’s problem board for next season.

4. Masterchef (4.26 million 1.5)- This could have done a whole lot worse. FOX is usually a mess in the summer with their reality shows and this year is looking no different. There may be come improvement but it probably won’t come quickly.

5. Chicago PD (6.27 million 1.6)- This show could have been great for NBC and it could have been a disaster. This show was neither but it gave NBC another stable piece in their scripted lineup. Now NBC still needs another megahit scripted show (provided The Blacklist holds up next season) and this show still has the potential to do it but I’m not sure the opportunity for it to explode will be there.

6. Supernatural (2.30 million 1.1)- Seeing numbers like this helps me understand the justification of leaving this show in place. See there was a highly convincing argument in place to move this show to prop up Mondays but this show has bounced around a lot in the last few years. The fans have continued to stick with it and they would have stuck with it for another move. However, being the oldest scripted show on the network also means that it deserves some respect and respect comes in the form of leaving it in its original timeslot.

7. The Americans (1.292 million 0.5)- This show is the definition of what a sophomore slump looks like. Now that the season is over FX has time to figure out what drove viewers away this season and try to get them back next season.

8. The Voice (11.69 million 3.3)- This show isn’t looking like the behemoth it was a few seasons ago. Yes in this TV landscape 3.0+ demos are good but when you’re a network still trying to get its act together and using one show to cover for you, pulling just a 3.0 demo isn’t quite enough.

9. Hannibal (2.35 million 0.8)- Not sure what NBC believes they are gaining by constantly renewing this show but there’s has to be some sort of benefit other than this show being cheap. I wouldn’t have the slightest idea of what that benefit is.

10. American Idol (Tuesday: 6.76 million 1.7; Wednesday- 10.53 million 2.7)- The fact that this show barely reached 10 million viewers for the finale is a testament to how far the show has fallen. I don’t know what kind of trickery FOX will use for next season but it has been mentioned that any changes won’t be affecting the judging panel. They have until January to figure that all out.
