10 Ratings Blurbs: 2/25/14 Edition

Somewhat of a boring week since many shows took the week off but there is a last minute announcement that I had to squeeze in here so that counts for something.

1. The Voice (15.86 million 4.7)- At this point everyone knows that this show will never be as strong as American Idol was at its peak. Everyone also knows that this show is responsible for saving NBC because without it saying the network struggles would be too kind. This year wasn't brutal because they had the Olympics but they are premiering some new shows soon (two will get their timeslot premieres tonight) and the ones that will be helped by this show are expected to do better than the ones that won't get the help.

2. Braxton Family Values (1.115 million 0.5)- I have no reason to believe that there won't be a 4th season for this show. When it airs or how long the season will be is up to the network. I don't have inside information on matters pertaining to that.

3. Real World Ex-Plosion (1.756 million 1.1)- This show is on an absolute tear and it has only aired 6 episodes. I would think it has MTV rethinking the approach of this show. The city gimmick may be dead and buried (since when does the city truly matter in this show anyway? It’s not like they only cast people who live in the cities they choose) but other gimmicks may take this show off of the life support 2 step it’s been doing for the last 3 years.

4. The Walking Dead (13.122 million 6.6)- I know this show has to seriously get under the skin of broadcast network executives. Here they are scheduling anything and everything against this show and it effortlessly posts over 10 million viewers and a 5.0+ demo every week. Meanwhile the 4 major networks combined can only manage one show posting the same 10+ million/5.0+ demo I just mentioned (The Big Bang Theory). They want to copy the success of this show so bad but the problem is they don’t know how because it’s not as simple as commissioning a million zombie-themed pilots.

5. 2 Broke Girls (7.96 million 2.5)- It's no secret that CBS wishes this show were a little stronger. They have this wish because their comedies are unstable and this show doing even 2-3 million viewers and 0.5 demo points better would be the difference between unsteady ground and having a solid block that needs very little retooling. Most people will be watching to see what happens with the comedies next season and this show will be in the mix.

6. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo (1.756 million 0.7)- This show is now firmly with the other top TLC shows. Yes that’s enough to keep getting the show renewed but TLC is a greedy network. They like to be relevant. They like to have at least one major reality show (a show getting above 3 million viewers every week) and right now they don’t have one. That’s not going to stop them from trying but in the meantime this show will probably get thrown in with Sister Wives and Long Island Medium where they all have long seasons and short breaks to keep from airing the show more than 10-12 weeks in a row.

7. Duck Dynasty (5.483 million 2.3)- I think it’s safe to say the best days of this show are behind it. Is it because of the controversy? Maybe. Is it because it’s overexposed? Perhaps. The only thing left to wonder is how long A&E drags this out. While the numbers are down by a lot it is still far ahead of every other show on the network and determining the end is tricky for shows in this position.

8. Dallas (2.658 million 0.7 )- This is good. It's about where the end of last season left off with. I do want to see how this holds up but if it does it will solidify that this is a successful reboot (Though making it past season 1 was the biggest step).

9. Being Human (1.170 million 0.5)- So the decision came down today to end the show after this season. It is not surprising. The ratings really haven’t improved from last season, but it does beg the question as to why this fourth season was needed. Last season’s ratings were the same as this and it would have been bizarre to expect to see some improvement with no major changes to the show.

10. Couples Therapy 4 (710,000 0.4)- For the first 3 seasons of this show, this would have been a good week. For this season it is a bad week. However when a show is this deep in the season, 1 bad week is not going to kill it and there are still 2 episodes to go so even if those don't recover this show still isn't in any danger of not returning.
