10 Ratings Blurbs: 1/28/14 Edition

I had to squeeze a couple of these shows on here because this is going to be the last time before my February Predictions post that I will say anything about them.

1. Teen Mom 2 (2.756 million 1.6)- No one can deny that this was a very good start and something that MTV desperately needed. However they like I realize that this is only the first week and there will be no reason to really feel good about these numbers if episode 2 takes a nosedive.

2. The Vampire Diaries (2.72 million 1.2)- This may have come back just a tiny bit weaker than the fall episodes but in terms of The CW, tiny really does mean tiny. When it is all said and done nobody over at The CW will really care how their top 4 shows will end in comparison to each other. 3 years ago they didn’t have 4 shows that they could consider to be hits.

3. The Mindy Project (3.02 million 1.5)- This isn’t a very good way to go out before another break. When it comes back, it will no longer have its spot behind New Girl so the numbers it posts after its return will truly make or break the show. Right now it is not exactly on the good side of being saved.

4. Real World: Ex-Plosion (1.290 million 0.8)- It looks like the show is beginning to find an audience and it is starting to grow a little. I am not convinced that the ratings will soar as the season goes along but if it keeps inching up it will earn another season because it’s very early and just about at the renewal threshold now.

5. Love & Hip Hop 4 (3.051 million 1.6)- This will always be an experimental show in my eyes. Nothing about all 4 seasons of this show has shown any real cohesion to me. It is the show where VH1 can take their gambles and roll the dice and every time it has paid off. If there are any changes coming then I won’t be surprised (unless of course there is no season 5 which would be a surprise because I’m not expecting that to happen).

6. Chicago PD (6.24 million 1.6)- There was absolutely nothing other than the name stopping this show from being dead on arrival a few weeks ago. It wasn’t and here we are 3 episodes in where it is still holding on. I still think any proclamations of this being a new hit show is still wildly premature but it is not a show that has stomachs churning over at NBC either.

7. Couples Therapy 4 (831,000 0.4)- Even though the show has only aired 4 episodes it is all but solidified that this will be the highest rated season of the series so far. It’s possible that viewers are interested but it is also possible that because it is on a low pressure night and paired with another show (Mob Wives) that it gives people less of an opportunity to forget about the show and are able to give it the chance that wasn’t available to it the first 3 seasons.

8. Blood, Sweat and Heels (1.220 million 0.5)- This show is really in the danger zone for me and I’m having a lot of trouble thinking of ways that Bravo could possibly renew this show. On numbers alone the show would get renewed. Even at 1.2 million viewers the show would get renewed. That is the one pro to this show. The cons are that it is behind the highest rated show on the network and the retention is getting worse by the week. That means that if the show gets renewed it doesn’t deserve to remain behind Real Housewives of Atlanta and it would likely fare even worse elsewhere on the schedule. I think if Bravo is unsure about what they should do about the show then they need to do a test and either air a new episode on Tuesday or push one episode back to 10pm (and give another current show a special 9pm airing behind RHOA). If the show loses even more viewers after the test then the answer should be clear because I’m thinking that the show doesn’t deserve to be renewed (and I will be reflecting this in the February predictions post).

9. Ravenswood (1.229 million 0.5)- I’ll be putting this show back on the list in 2 weeks and I doubt my feelings will change too much about it but right now I have to believe that this show is not coming back. The only thing it has working in its favor is that it can get these exact same numbers without the help of Pretty Little Liars (meaning it can air between seasons). ABC Family has canceled shows that have been in this same ratings territory before and that’s why this show is far from being safe.

10. Bad Girls All Star Battle 2 (960,000 0.4)- The thing that will throw a lot of people off when trying to compare this season’s numbers to last season is last season’s premiere. That 1.7 million for the season 1 premiere was very high and unexpected on a lot of fronts so in comparison this season is going to appear as if it is doing worse than last season when it really isn’t. This season is doing a better job than season 1 at maintaining some form of stability and that in my opinion is always going to be more important than coasting along from the strength of one abnormally high rated episode.
