10 Ratings Blurbs: 1/14/14 Edition

I can't say I'm surprised with the ratings of any of these shows. There's a disappointing show or two in here but the rest basically came in or went out at their expected ratings levels.

1. Switched at Birth (1.756 million 0.7)- This is pretty much expected. I know ABC Family knows not to expect any different from this show. It has an audience and the audience is sticking with it.

2. Being Mary Jane (3.320 million 1.5)- Of course the numbers for this episode (or the season) really don’t matter, I do think BET would be hasty in calling this show a hit. Anything above a 1.0 demo is great but BET is no stranger to having decently rated premieres before the declines begin to hit.

3. Justified (2.839 million 1.1)- After today’s news of the season 6 renewal (which will also be the final season of the show). It seems like these numbers just don’t stand out to me. Now that there is an end date in sight, FX knows what they can expect from this show and perhaps they will begin to plan how they can promote next season.

4. Project Runway All Stars (1.976 million 0.6)- It appears that this show is finally on equal footing with Project Runway which would be a good thing except now Lifetime thinks they need to bring a third fashion show with heavy Project Runway elements into the mix. I suppose if it works then whatever but they are beginning to stretch things a little too thin. Breaks are still better than just plugging in a clone to fill 8-12 weeks.

5. Ravenswood (1.691 million 0.7)- I’m not sold on this. To return with help and the show basically puts up numbers that Switched at Birth and The Fosters can get by itself tells me that ABC Family is looking at another waste of a show that can’t support itself on its own and doesn’t do that much of a good job holding on to the PLL audience. However time will be limited because now it has 4 episodes left to prove that it deserves another chance.

6. Beauty and the Beast (713,000 0.3)- At this point The CW knows this is a dead show walking. They have far too many freshman successes and 2 more shows that could potentially do well to keep this show around. Even if The CW had the luxury of a throwaway spot this show still wouldn’t be eligible because the numbers are too low to justify it.

7. Chicago PD (8.59 million 2.0)- It’s January and The Voice is not on. These numbers are good enough to make the people over at NBC do backflips. Now the waiting game will start all over again because so far ABC and CBS have had to deal with some devastating week 2 drops over the last week and this is not something NBC wants.

8. The Haves and the Have Nots (2.776 million 0.9)- This is a very strong return for the show. It appears that most shows got an influx of much needed viewers last week signaling that people were ready to get back to their shows after the holidays. What remains to be seen is how much they will keep these new or returning viewers.

9. Pretty Little Liars (3.171 million 1.2)- I think we all know the game by now. Good premiere then it drops off to levels we are used to seeing for this show (typically 2.2 million with a 0.9 demo). Anything different from that and I might be shocked.

10. Being Human (1.257 million 0.5)- I don’t know what it says about Syfy when their Friday shows appear to have done better than their Monday shows. Since just about everything on their scripted slate is either new or not exactly a huge hit, the playing ground is even for now but several more weeks of numbers can and will change that.
